Does anyone know if anyone is using the X10 features? Though thinking about automation in the future - maybe looking at adding in MQTT?

i'm having huge problems getting a sony SNC-DH160 connected to zoneminder
if i open /mjpeg?speed=5 on the ip, it works just fine.. with no authentication
but zoneminder is not able to eat that
stuff like this: Unable to decode jpeg
"Failed requesting writeable buffer for reading JPEG image."

hi all. it seems like a (semi) recent update to ZM caused embedding the 'events view' for a camera into an iframe, to trigger a reload and take over the full page / break out of its iframe. Does anyone know a workaround? We use zoneminder for a security camera setup and had one of the 'event views' embedded into a homebrew 'dashboard' of sorts.
I worked around it for now by embedding just the video feed but having the events list was nice

Any plans to move away from github?
stoptouchingme
why move from github?
ntd
because msft bought it?
EEE
stoptouchingme
so? theres been no announcements of what changes (if any) will happen yet, so I don't see the point in knee-jerk reactions over it, yet at least

microsoft hates open source. accept MS as the leader of a open source community is like accepting trump is president. things are going to get bad fast.
just because trump knows how to sell land doesn't mean he knows how to manage it
ntd
"embrace, extend, extinguish"
talus
same with MS
ntd
you don't need a cctv system, just mount laptops to the wall and have them all skype you, amirite?
stoptouchingme
talus: but you were okay with the VC crew behind github? who could (arguably) do the same thing at any given point?
im not advocating for MS here, just playing devils advocate. We don't really have any information to be basing this on at this point.
ntd
with what they've done to windows with win10 and office2016+ you *really* shouldn't trust them
sure, we could delve into their past for more gold
stoptouchingme
I'll admit I have no experience with later versions of office, as we dont use it for my work nor do i use it at home. But beyond the telemetry stuff in win10 - which can be disabled - what specifically in win10?
honest question
ntd
oh, it can be disabled?
no it can't
talus
i dont know who VC is, im sure if they were as well known as MS then maybe id avoid them too
stoptouchingme
talus: venture capitalists. literally only in it to make money
ntd: thats funny cuz its fully disabled on my gaming rig
./shrug
ntd
you can kinda disable *most* of it, but there is no off-switch. and even w10 enterprise is chatty as frak
stoptouchingme
plus, lets not pretend like MS is the only one to play that particular game. Hell, even ubuntu got caught up in that mess recently
talus
win 10 is gross
ntd
with sending searches to amazon? not like turning windows into friggin kazaa
talus
my computer wakes itself up in the middle of the night to send MS whatever
its really annoying
stoptouchingme
i've never had that issue talus, although i have seen it on some systems at work. turned out to be something wrong in the hibernation systems, on those boxes, fwiw
annoyed the hell out of us too
ntd
and don't get me started on windows update
talus
LOL
stoptouchingme
thats another one i've yet to experience the shit people whine about
ntd
instead of the client determining what is currently installed and what new is available, it sends to whole "manifest" to msft
stoptouchingme
even on corporate systems, none of our win10 boxes have ever forced an update once you say 'no, do it later'
ntd
i don't care about the updates, i care about how WU actually works
stoptouchingme
do you have a link to something i can read up on that aspect of it? cuz in googling i'm not finding anything yet
ntd
WU clients send WU servers a "manifest" of what is currently onboard, WU servers determine which updates you should get. the "manifest" includes a whole lot more than you'd think
i might be missing it, but in a skim, i dont see anything in that one that stands out as weird, for the update service to do what it needs to do to keep end-users happy

i too am having trouble finding a silver-bullet reference, remember reading about this in a mark minasi book
stoptouchingme
i can totally see a privacy concern, given that they do need to know hardware types and such to safely and cleanly deliver drivers and the like, but yeah, thats all that stands out
ntd
long story short: wu clients send wu servers a list of all installed software (including non-msft sw), device identifiers like eth, wifi and bt MACs, IMEIs, etc
stoptouchingme
personally i'll take that kind of quasi-anonymity over having to spend days tracking down drivers to reinstall my OS, lol
ntd
#windows can confirm this

WU is a mess
Had an AD network whosse wundows update server crashed and had a corrupted database
stoptouchingme
oh that does not sound fun to fix
haha
N3X15
could not fix it at all, had to completely reinstall the OS
stoptouchingme
yuck

Also I not typink gud today

Thankfully, that AD network was only really set up for WSUS, since the network was out in the sticks and updates tended to do horrible things to a modem's 768k bandwidth.
If it had been a big AD, I probably would have committed seppuku before even attempting to rebuild that
