morning I’m looking for some spycam’s for my mothers organic shop. we have 10 old cams but they don’t work really good with zoneminder and the quality is very bad.
can someone recomend recommend a cam?

I like the Hikvision DS-2CD2342WD-I and similar cameras - not perfect, but good IR and pretty cheap

morning knnniggett
knnniggett
so ic0n's internet has been severed... no really... the line was cut. Hopefully he can get things back in order relatively soon.
ozymandias_
backhoe?
knnniggett
roofers ?!?!?!
ozymandias_
backhoes are the internet's natural enemy
wow
better get a discount
knnniggett
yeah, no kidding
ozymandias_
i suppose, if power and net go through the roof, it is understandable
but still, not an agreed upon impact
wasutton3_mobile
agreed.
i've got data going across poles into my house, and i worry about wind/lightning
knnniggett
Years ago, my neighbor physically moved a house down the street, and in doing so ripped my pole mounted cable line right off my house. After a phone call to Charter, and much to my surprise, they had burial coax run the next day at no cost.
ozymandias_
so in my town, there are 3 isps -- the good one (run by the city) and 2 for profit evil companies
we also have a large college population
i rented a house, and 3 months after moving in, some guy from one of the companies walked up, and literally took bolt cutters to the coax on the outside of the house
and when we opened the door and yelled to him he ignored us and drove away
4:30 on a friday
knnniggett
did you get a photo of him?
ozymandias_
turns out the previous occupants never cancelled service, and had 4 months of unpaid bills
so they cut service without posting a notice on the door.
asker
knnniggett - thanks for the email. For Android 4.4 can you collect zmN logs when this happens and email to me? Steps 1. clear logs, 2. run montage 3. when the issue happens, send logs right away without doing any other operations.
ozymandias_
the best part? we were not even using that company -- we were using the city service
we called the city, and 15 minutes later a truck rolled up and started re-wiring the house
asker
I'm surprised there is so much of diff. by Desktop and Android
between
ozymandias_
they actually pulled ALL the wires, and reran them, tested every connection, etc
knnniggett
asker: yeah, I've kept each os on a different sd card.... so I can just pop the android 4.4 image back in easily
asker
great thx
ozymandias_
they were going to bill-back to the company that cut service for an emergency off-hours call
we were out of internet for less than an hour
cost the company that cut the service several thousand in fines and parts
i was amazed that there was no obligation to post a notice on the door
but evidently they mailed all the notices to the previous occupant, which we forwarded to the landlord each month with rent, and then he threw away, due to lack of forwarding address

knnniggett
that's pretty amazing how quickly the city isp showed to fix the issue
ozymandias_
well, a) they are a great company, and b) they rolled the truck as an emergency, KNOWING they were billing back to their competitor
thats also why they rewired/tested the whole house -- "we dont know how much damage he did, so we have to replace everything and charge them for it"
they said it happens several times a year

does anyone know of a ftp to zoneminder motion bridge that already exists or should i just bang one out in nodejs?

welp almost done banging out the ftpd server https://github.com/jacobalberty/zm-ftpd-bridge, theres no support for connecting to zoneminder yet but supports figuring out what to do when a camera uploads to it
goes all the way to generating the command to zmtrigger, just doesnt open the socket yet
ozymandias_ bookmarks
ozymandias_
looks like you are solving a problem I may have in the future
knnniggett
very nice
LiENUS
ozymandias_, yeah i cant find anyone whos done it yet and it really wasnt that bad to get that far
should hopefully be working this weekend
ozymandias_
i was planning on writing it if needed when my new cameras get here
LiENUS
jist is mkdir /motion/{mid} so mkdir /motion/2
then anything uploaded to /motion/2 will get unlinked and turned into a command for zmtrigger
ozymandias_
nice
bsaggy has quit
i am also thinking of making some triggers out of some smartthings door monitors
keep a video when the door opens, but not when I sit down for dinner in front of that door ;-)
LiENUS
needs configuration for the time interval for the commands, for the zmtrigger details and possibly add login support, right now it just accepts anything
knnniggett
^ yeah I was just thinking that
throw in a couple seconds worth of pre-buffer
ozymandias_
they sell magnetic+temp+motion sensors that last like 2 years on one battery for $7
i'd have to find the links again, but they seem pretty well suited for what I want to do
