so is the FW8918W unable to be controlled via the zmcontrol.pl script?
digital-gnome
Can you control it from the web UI? I've never actually used ptz in zoneminder. Not sure if the .pl script is tied to all the controls or just the automated control
aaand you can do it through the web interface and DONE
digital-gnome
nice
github web interface or readthedocs?

ic0n: I don't think groups is working right now. Looks like storage and the rest are ok but groups brings up no monitors
ic0n
Hmm... works here. Did you zmupdate.pl?
zuruitako has quit
digital-gnome
Yeah. also just updated a seperate one from the ppa
ic0n
I just fixed populating the monitorIds select when editing a group, but the groups page itself works great for me here.
are there any errors logged?
digital-gnome
None that I see.
ic0n
So the groups page lists the groups... but not the monitors, right?
digital-gnome
Groups page works fine, I make a group and everything is good. On console or anywhere I use the dropdown to select it and I get nothing.
Yeah
ic0n
Hmm... works for me.
digital-gnome
It's like the group consists of no monitors so nothing displays on the console. But on the groups page it lists everything fine.
I made three groups. GroupId column in the database is all 0
ic0n
GroupId column? 0? That's not good.
uh oh... I just tried creating a new group and it didn't work.

did you see that pos figured out why his h264 passthrough wasn't working?
That fixed it
ic0n
uh yeah... something to do with avconv
The main thing this release is is api ability to select events or monitors by Group.
digital-gnome
Looks like it's working.

On the forum there is this post from Andrew: https://forums.zoneminder.com/viewtopic.php?p=9... indicating there is no way to get zoneminder web interface to join a multicast stream. Is there any way this would be possible, e.g. instead of handing out proxied stream it hands out udp://multicastgroup:port/ for browser mpeg4 view or what have you to play?
or would you need some dedicated client?
digital-gnome
Are you trying to view the camera stream without zms?
rjsalts
we currently use dvtel, was wondering if it was possible to have similar model where end users could join camera stream directly for live footage
digital-gnome
I'm not familiar with them. I'm assuming it's a full solution, dvtel camera and nvr hardware? I'm pretty sure multicast like that has to be supported on the camera.
I suppose if zm was using a multicast source it could report that address to the browser. VLC can restream any rtsp camera to multicast. Few seconds delay for buffers though
rjsalts
yeah, they were bought by flir
but their software does a native windows client which can play back the h264 directly from a camera rather than asking the recording device for a stream
digital-gnome
That requires multicast support on the camera. Not all cameras do that. I can't see a simple way for something like zoneminder to handle it.
<--Not an expert though.
rjsalts
sure, but assuming that the cameras did support multicast I'm guessing I'd still need some client to deal with the multicast
digital-gnome
Oh, right. I missed you saying client earlier. Most of the cheap ip cameras I've seen use an activex browser client to handle that. I don't think standard browsers can do it.
rjsalts
most of the cameras are onvif capable and can stream h264 directly over multicast
if not all
I think the built in web interfaces on most ip cameras is using a unicast stream, and a browser plugin of some kind as you say
digital-gnome
I know for sure the amcrest plugin can show it's multicast stream. So activex can do it. Looks like silverlight might.
I think multicast support in browsers isn't a big priority for anyone because of iffy net transport for it.

digital-gnome: the watch popup... has a back button... instead of close... it doesn't work.
Right.. clicking on the monitor from console doesn't use a popup. Click on a feed from montage does.

The view button on events view. Is it supposed to view multiple events? It's broken right now because I missed that it existed and it tries to popup but I can't figure out the purpose.
It passes multiple eids, but even in 1.30.4 they don't do anything.
ic0n_
yeah I think so. The idea is that the event view uses teh filter to know which next event to view next.
