anyone tried installing for archlinux lately?
      • xnxs_
havent been using arch as much lately, but give it a shot and see what happens
      • jab416171
        it fails to build
      • trying it on centos and it doesn't even start...
      • what's up with this
      • commotion has quit
      • all of the docs are way outdated, there's virtually nothing for centos... this smells like a dead project to me.

I finally got it up and running in centos...
      • but I can't get it to see my camera
      • xnxs_
        can vlc see your camera?
      • jab416171
        yup
      • xnxs_, I put this in VLC: rtsp://zm:pass@10.1.2.3:80/videoMain
      • and in zoneminder I set it to ffmpeg or libvlc, put that same URL as the source path, with the remote method as TCP, and I just get a red screen or a blue screen in the video feed.
      • xnxs_
        rtsp typically isn't port 80
      • i think its 554?
      • jab416171
        it's 80 on my camera
      • vlc works with the :80, doesn't work if I leave the port off
      • xnxs_
        fair enough
      • try setting the remote method to rtp/rtsp
      • jab416171
and have the hostname as zm:pass@ip, and host path as /videoMain?
      • xnxs_
i have the whole line in the source path
      • jab416171
        there's no "source" for RTSP
      • xnxs_
        ffmpeg or libvlc?
      • jab416171
        remote
      • xnxs_
        try ffmpeg
      • jab416171
with the whole line on "source" right?
      • xnxs_
        thats what i have
      • jab416171
        and remote method as TCP?
      • xnxs_
        rtp/rtsp
      • jab416171
I can pick TCP, UDP, UDP Multicast, and HTTP tunnel
      • what version are you running?
      • xnxs_
        1.30
      • jab416171
        I'm on 1.30.2
      • xnxs_
and you have it set to ffmpeg on the firt panel right....
      • jab416171

ic0n: I've had to switch back to older version
      • ic0n
        Good.
      • Bhaal
Sometimes even when enabling a camera in ZM it would crash
      • "Good." So I don't keep hassling you? ;)
      • ic0n
This is bleeding edge, you clearly need something more production stable.
      • Bhaal
Well yes/no :) I like to test stuff
      • Just don't have the facilities to have both a production and test environments at the same time
      • ic0n
I think I've finally figured out why my events start 9 seconds too late. Am hoping to solve and actually be able to start using h264 reliably.

        Hey asker!
      • asker
        hiya ic0n - whats up?
      • tell me you are doing something groundbreaking this week!
      • or earth shattering.
      • ic0n
Working on improving camera auto-detection in zm... a lib to auto-configure granview cameras... made zm stop really quick instead of taking 10 seconds..
      • asker
        What's life without impressive adjectives
      • ic0n
        also fixing up h264
      • asker
        aha
      • ic0n
Hoping next week to begin selling a zmcloud service.
      • asker
        brilliant!
      • ic0n
Since I'm the only maintainer left... I figure I can do whatever I want.
      • asker
        eh?
      • ic0n
Oooh... I did notice that the zmv2 code drop that Phil gave a whlie ago has a daemonized zms in it. am thinking about merging it into zm.
      • asker
ah, the issue is the code is not GPL licensed
      • unless you re referring to another code drop and not oz
      • in which case I suppose it is GPL
      • ic0n
        pre oz
      • asker
        yeah, thats fine then
      • ic0n
I'm not sure if that is worthwhile though, instead of using some library lib lib555 or whatever
      • asker
In general, I think its a damn good idea to import stable code from elsewhere instead of doing it on your own
      • ic0n
yeah. as much as possible anyways.
      • asker
so I'm very excited about your cloud launch - that its finally happening
      • you know about angelcam?
      • ic0n
I think I've looked at them before... it's been a while though.
      • asker
        ok
      • ic0n
I'm basically just going to rough together accounts, with manual lxc based zm provisioning. Just to satisfy those people who keep asking for it. .
      • asker
        aws hosting?
      • ic0n
I need some people. There are not enough hours in the day.
      • asker
yeah, when you deploy into the cloud, you'll definitely need support
      • ic0n
No, in my office datacenter. I have enough bandwidth and resources to handle probably 10-20 accounts. At which point I will look at scaling up.
      • I'm not sure that aws or whatever is going to be cost effective... because what we do is both disk space, ram and cpu intensive.
      • asker
I'm curious what sort of ZM users will want cloud. Most of the folks who seem to use ZM seem to be particularly concerned about their data not being on the cloud, and for those who don't care, they seem to be going for the regular Arlos/Nest/whatnot
      • When I looked at pricing on AWS, I noticed they don't charge for incoming data - just outgoing
      • (I may be wrong)
      • ic0n
Yeah I need a POC first before spending any money on it. I already have all the resources needed here.
      • asker
that was around the time we were thinking of doing something similar with oZ but decided against it, given our different goals
      • right
