so I moved the /zm path in apache to / and seem to have broke something
      • the image when I click on a monitor is broke, I think something's mucked with /cgi-bin
      • scratch that, it works fine internally just not through cloudflare+proxy

      • i'm trying to get PTZ on an amcrest IP2M-841E working and I came across this amcrest781.pm module that I want to try. The instructions in the module say to put it in /usr/share/perl5/ZoneMinder/Control and then "in the camera monitor, under the control tab, select "Controllable" ... but I'm having a hard time finding the control tab.

hey guys, is anyone here familiar with Home assistant? I'm see they have a component for ZM, and i'm wondering if there is a way i can tell an IP camera to start and stop streaming using voice and other automation, any pointers?
      • for example i can have a nursery camera that streams at fixed times, then i also want to be able to say "Alex turn on nursery camera" at say a random naptime

this was a new one for me; zmwatch[2652]: ERR [Unable to run "/usr/bin/zmdc.pl restart zma -m 19", output is "Unable to connect to server"]
      • running zmdc.pl manually resulted in a mysql error "Too many connections" so increased that from the default and things seem to be ok.

hi can I use zone minder to capture stills from camera, say every 20 sec
      • not planning to have a continuous video the camera will send the snapshop either through the http get or ftp put to server
      • barjac joined the channel
      • barjac, do you know if you can get zoneminder to work with just stills from IP camera
      • barjac, I dont want to record video, just snapshots
      • barjac
eventHorizon: I don't think that would be a problem as e.g. ZMNinja just pulls individual frames rather than video IIUC, but I'm not a ZM developer - better just ask and wait for someone with more knowledge ;)
      • eventHorizon
barjac, my user case is that I dont need any video recorded, just want regular snapshots captured due a external event , say camera detecting motion and sending a web event to zoneminder
      • jzaw
eventHorizon, you can have zm be a monitor (not record anything) and then wget single frames
      • wget "http://<ip or fqdn of zm box>/zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms?mode=single&monitor=1&scale=100" -O camera1.jpg
      • eventHorizon
the reason for this, is I dont want any video options available for my wife to view from her mobile and cost me a fortune once she hits her data cap
      • jzaw
if you do it via a crond your script can modify the camera jpg name accodringly yyyymmddhhmm for instance
      • is there a problem of viewing for a short time using zmninja ?
      • eventHorizon
only if she forgets to close the app
      • jzaw
but if youre running zm ... you can also run a page where you have a collection of snaps generated on each refresh of the page based on that above wget
      • i do that here
      • when the page gets accessed ... snaps are taking as above
      • and then page is generated and presented with those single snaps
      • refresh page ... re-snapped
      • eventHorizon
are you referring to zmninja or zoneminder or both
      • watching the demo of vmninja now. is it displaying live video or just snapshots on each refresh
      • not having used zoneminder before, I will setup up VM and give it a try
      • zmninja seems to excellent interface
      • jzaw
        eventHorizon, something like this

      • jzaw
yes eventHorizon zmN is rather well done and improves all the time ... the author sits on this channel and responds well to requests and bug reports
      • ah i though you already had zm running
      • eventHorizon
do you need a beefy machine for zoneminder, can it run on raspberry pi
      • ?
      • jzaw
you can be using zm how you like (motion detect ... or record all the time etc ... or dont record) and still have a small webpage that presents single shots as per my paste above
      • if youre intending to do motion detect ...id say you need more beef
      • eventHorizon
I have a hp microserver as another option
      • twice1 joined the channel
      • jzaw
it also depends on things like resolutions and number of cams
      • if youre just recording 24/7 or use the api to trigger recording (ie you have pir or microwave motion sensors) then a hpms would be ok ... cos in effect youre just recording with the machine
      • i used to run 11 mjpg-streams into a hpms gen7 N54L with lots of disk space
      • but i was recording 24/7
      • but now i have 1080p cams and much higher frame rate and store as mp4 ... so it takes much more processing
      • eventHorizon, how many cams ?
      • what kind ?
      • what is the intended fps?
      • do you need modect ?
      • some users here do use RPi ... but it defo wont support many high res cams at high fps at all
      • eventHorizon
I have some kmart special external ones (about 4) and about 5 or six internal, 4 of which have PIR sensors included which I could use to drive external trigger
      • jzaw
for security 2-3 fps is often ok 5fps is high
      • you dont need 25-30 fps for security ... which would take more storage than nsa/gchq have combined
      • but id have to say your RPi wont be sufficient for that number of cams i think
      • which gen hpms do you have?
      • eventHorizon
I have been collecting them for about a year, but I am relunctant to crawl through the roof space right now as it is quite hot here now (summer)
      • jzaw
ah youre in the southern hemisphere :D
      • eventHorizon
        yes, australia
      • jzaw
the antipode even ! ... uk here
      • cold brrr
      • eventHorizon
ranges between 24 C and 31 C this time of year.
      • I considering wifi but streaming the amount from so many camera;s would be noisy unless I have opted for getting camera;s to send snapshots only
      • jzaw
        so ... hpms ?
      • eventHorizon
my wife also wants a dog cam, she wants to know if the dog is barking. Is there any audio detection in zoneminder
      • knnniggett joined the channel
      • jzaw
        eventHorizon, no audio as yet
      • if im not mistaken
      • eventHorizon
jzaw, the camera have noise detection in them so I discovered and there is also this page http://zmtrigger.blogspot.com.au/p/blog-page.html

      • <ren0v0> hey guys, is anyone here familiar with Home assistant? I'm see they have a component for ZM, and i'm wondering if there is a way i can tell an IP camera to start and stop streaming using voice and other automation, any pointers?

        Titler: External Triggers in ZoneMinder
      • jzaw
        you know that looks great
      • will have to have a closer look at it and maybe set up a few triggered cams
      • knnniggett
ren0v0: gnulnx was looking at that couple days ago
      • jzaw
btw for everyone's info i spoke to amazon and apparently the revotech cams have had a firmware update ... so ive reordered them (due any time now) and if they don't crash at night like the last batch
      • ill report how they go
      • knnniggett
cool.... you putting those on the wiki? :-)
      • jzaw
ren0v0, soz not used any home assistant
      • knnniggett, yeah i will ... when i tried them last they were good (enough) image quality ... nice wide lens ... but had a major fault in that at night when they switched to IR mode they crashed 10x a night :/
      • else they were great ... poe 1080p and easily accessible rtsp stream
      • im hoping it was a firmware issue rather than a h/w one
      • dankolbrs has quit
      • good thing about buying from amazon is that i can get free delivery and then free return if they dont pass the test
      • dankolbrs joined the channel
      • these are the ones ... but ill report back if they are ok
      • knnniggett, that wifi module on your pages looks similar to what's in the escams
      • red postage stamp sized thing in the shot
      • knnniggett
        Yep, that's it
      • I think that is why one can buy them so cheap.... manufacturers buy them in bulk and drive the price down
      • jzaw nods
      • The WEMO wifi switch uses it too
      • jzaw
i wish they'd excluded it from the escam tough .. and made the cam £2 cheaper :P
      • there's no way i use it for security
      • knnniggett
        heh, yeah no kidding
      • ACBXL joined the channel
      • jzaw
so im going to have to look at api triggering on motion from pir i think
      • ACBXL has left the channel
      • knnniggett
Yeah, I've never tried the api to do the triggering, but that is worth looking into ....plus you can do it over SSL unlike zmtrigger which does plain text only
      • Last time I played with the esp8266, there was some bleeding edge stuff which did HTTPS, but you had to hard code the site's ssl cert into your program
