beefsalad: on Source tab of FFMPEG monitor try Remote Method RTP/RTSP, will force TCP connection.
UDP issues in FFMPEG can cause artifacts, but more often seen as smear of image from a certain line
But worth a try

havent been watching it (too busy hanging cameras) but whenever I reconfigured it appears to have cured it
granted it burning IR at the moment, I suspect I'd see the same thing
its a nice shot of a fuzzy dog butt and part of my living room
hmmm, zmc shit the bed
uhhh, any way we can have the rtsp password suppressed from the logs?

Hello
Can anyone please suggest a good inexpensive IP video camera with a good RTSP support for ZM?

Good morning

jzaw, I've just seen your response about disabling the analysis part of zma now. Is it really that massive of a task (I'm coming from an ignorant understanding of the ZM system)? Is there no way to just comment out the analysis parts, or is it tightly coupled with the storing of footage to disk and cataloguing to the DB?
Morning ic0n

Maybe you can comment on that above message? Re: disabling the motion analysis to reduce server load
ic0n
um... the calculations are fairly intense. you turn it off by turning off motion detectino: select record as the monitor type.
JoeAlamo
I have my monitors on record. But the zma process for that monitor is taking up 1.6GB RAM and 90% of a core, whilst the zmc process is only 306MB and 20% of a core
Is the zma process still doing something then? I'm running the video storage branch - perhaps the video encoding is done within it?
ic0n
zma also does the writing. You can reduce buffers if you are just recording.
you are using h264 passthrough?
JoeAlamo
Nope, x264 encode.
I understand h264 passthrough is about half the strain compared to x264 encode from some tests I conducted. However theres no timestamp overlay when passing the footage directly
ic0n
ah. Yeah the encoding is happening in zma.
long term, it may get better due to hardware support.
JoeAlamo
Might have to investigate whether the client would prefer being able to run more cameras vs not having timestamps.
You're running a 32 camera setup right, with videostorage?
ic0n
I'm running several systems, some more like 90 cameras. I don't use the encode though, I use passthrough. The cameras do the timestamping.
JoeAlamo
Impressive! Are any of those systems using 1920x1080 cameras?
ic0n
The camera support that, but I am running them at 1280x768.
JoeAlamo
Ah right, I have a client who is wanting the cameras at 1920x1080, in a 32 camera setup. With x264 encode on, my server can only handle around 16 of them. I might look into setting it up with h264 passthrough instead, and add the timestamps at a later date.
Cheers for all this info! :)
