      • asker
      • upcboy
one more question asker where did you purchase yours?
      • asker

      • upcboy
dang it amazon doesn't seem to have it in stock lol
      • jzaw
asker, which dahua do you have?
      • ah i should read lower in the scroll back
      • lol
      • asker
        jzaw - :) - very nice camera
      • jzaw
yeah ive just tested (almost to destruction) some v cheap cams ... images good ... rtsp stream very easily accessible ... but only configurable via cms on windows and fatally crashes many times an hour during the hours of the darkness ... having to return them
      • looking for replacements
      • asker
not sure if dahuas do away with windows - don't remember
      • jzaw
well ive gotten used to having the old laptop dual boot to xp
      • once set up ill never touch again i guess
      • asker
same here - I have a VM with Win 7, only to be used for one time cam configs.
      • Some cams don't load up with win 10
      • jzaw nods
      • jzaw
do you use that dahua at max resolution at all or do you restrict yourself to say 1080p
      • asker
        I use max resolution
      • but 5fps
      • all my cameras are at max res
      • (8now)
      • jzaw
wow damn they're dispatched from china latvia or italy
      • (amazon)
      • asker
really? I thought mine came from the US
      • jzaw
        that would be amazon.us
      • amazon.uk will have different supply routes
      • all my cams are 1080p too and 5fps
      • asker
        yeah possible
      • jzaw
im wondering if these are any good?
      • £70 inc post
      • asker
all of them look exactly the same
      • its like one guy really develops it and a 1000 clone it
      • jzaw
        yeah
      • the escams *look* physically the same as these failed revotechs

my front door cam is an escam which is going strong. Weathered reasonable amount of snow as well.
      • the dahua looks similar, just better quality
      • so this winter I'll see if the snow makes it move

I need to figured something out Wife now wants cameras around the house.
      • digdilem
upcboy, any particular reason she wants cams inside?
      • upcboy
        she wants them outside digdilem
      • we don't live in the nicest neighboorhood
      • digdilem
oh, around the outside. gotcha, i misread that
      • upcboy
and she's home alone most of the day.
      • digdilem
        fair enough
      • upcboy
mind you we have woned the house almost 3 years and never had anything stolen or taken from our house lol
      • digdilem
yeah, but i have a wife too, and I know that making them feel safe is worth the effort
      • upcboy
yeah i don't even really know where to start lol
      • digdilem
        cameras. cable. server. zoneminder
      • or an all-in-one dvr system, which can be cheap
      • knnniggett
Hey, that's easy when you don't have to convince the wife
      • digdilem
heh, i just don't tell mine what I'm doing :)
      • but then we have one neighbour and big dogs
      • so she feels pretty safe anyway
      • upcboy
I have a full server set up at my house
      • I want poe ip cameras
      • digdilem
i install mostly vivotek these days, they're good - but not that cheap

digdilem: same. Love me some vivotek

      • digdilem
we've dabbled with most brands, and everything we've found cheaper isn't reliable enough for us - we have to pay for someone to fix if it goes down
      • i think they're the cheapest of the "good kit"
      • upcboy
200$ a camera is too expensive for my blood right now lol
      • digdilem
at least with POE, you can restart them all from the switch if they're flaky :)
      • upcboy
I think there is just too much out there and not enough info on what works with what
      • gnulnx
I'm a bit behind. Do switches support poe+ (802.3at, 25w), or just normal poe (12.95w)?
      • My vivotek requires 802.3at and my old poe swtich couldn't put out enough juice
      • digdilem
depends. the -af is the more common standard
      • don't think any of my kit does -at (we've got about 20 poe switches)
      • gnulnx
Any of your swtiches, or any of your cameras?
      • Strangely my http://www.trendnet.com/langen/products/proddet... does 802.3af but wouldn't power my http://www.vivotek.com/fd8371ev/#specifications which calls for 802.3af
      • digdilem
not noticed the -at tag on any of our kit. tbh, until you mentioned it i wasn't aware of it :)

      • i have zero experience with them
      • ive good experience with escams
      • and v poor experience with revotechs
      • [15:55:04] <gnulnx> I'm a bit behind. Do switches support poe+ (802.3at, 25w), or just normal poe (12.95w)?

Hello everyone. I recently migrated from an coax input fusionHD card (from an analog converter) to a Hauppage composite input analog card reader. The transition went well, however ZoneMinder is complaining about not having a monitor associated with the old coax input card:
      • 2016-09-02 07:36:43.147830zmdc4587ERR'zmc -d /dev/video-fusionHD' exited abnormally, exit status 255zmdc.pl
      • 2016-09-02 07:36:43.126531zmc_dvideo_fusionHD23095ERRNo monitors foundzmc.cpp246
      • jzaw
hans109h, youll have to hang out a bit
      • some ppl are on different timezones
      • one or two have used analog cards but i think generally ppl are mostly moving over to ip cams
      • nevertheless stick around
      • joao
jzaw: so far I had no problems with dahua's
      • but I only tested it like a 1 month or something
      • jzaw
        cool
      • i need to find relatively inexpensive cams
      • the revotechs held great promise
      • but their firmware does something at night that it really doesnt like and reboots itself all the time
      • compdoc joined the channel
      • joao
dahua could be a a choice then..
      • I didn't had that kind of behaviour with them
      • and the quality is very good for the price in my opinion
      • hans109h: not sure about your problem
      • I still have coax cams with recording cards and ip cams as well

Wel now that my poe switch works properly, Im' going to install 3 more cameras this wekend
      • And if anyone can recommend a split mechanical keyboard, I'd appreciate it. This one just doesn't jive with my fingers.
      • hans109h
It isn't an issue with the analogs really, it's the fact that zmdc is still trying to connect to the previous device for some reason. It might be that instead of creating a new monitor, I just switched devices. I'm going to search my database for references to the old device.
      • gnulnx, do you have specific POE cameras or do you use some sort of device to yank the power out of the cat5 and power the camera?
      • gnulnx
hans109h: I have some vivotek and axis, and a poe switch that injects the power
      • I also have a separate poe injector (like a separate power brick) but don't need to use that as I have the switch
      • hans109h
how much does a camera like that cost?
      • gnulnx
Plenty of inexpensive cameras have poe these days
