yeah ive just tested (almost to destruction) some v cheap cams ... images good ... rtsp stream very easily accessible ... but only configurable via cms on windows and fatally crashes many times an hour during the hours of the darkness ... having to return them

Some cams don't load up with win 10

do you use that dahua at max resolution at all or do you restrict yourself to say 1080p

the escams *look* physically the same as these failed revotechs

my front door cam is an escam which is going strong. Weathered reasonable amount of snow as well.

the dahua looks similar, just better quality

so this winter I'll see if the snow makes it move

i install mostly vivotek these days, they're good - but not that cheap

we've dabbled with most brands, and everything we've found cheaper isn't reliable enough for us - we have to pay for someone to fix if it goes down

i think they're the cheapest of the "good kit"

at least with POE, you can restart them all from the switch if they're flaky :)

My vivotek requires 802.3at and my old poe swtich couldn't put out enough juice

depends. the -af is the more common standard

don't think any of my kit does -at (we've got about 20 poe switches)

Hello everyone. I recently migrated from an coax input fusionHD card (from an analog converter) to a Hauppage composite input analog card reader. The transition went well, however ZoneMinder is complaining about not having a monitor associated with the old coax input card:

some ppl are on different timezones

one or two have used analog cards but i think generally ppl are mostly moving over to ip cams

the revotechs held great promise

but their firmware does something at night that it really doesnt like and reboots itself all the time

dahua could be a a choice then..

I didn't had that kind of behaviour with them

and the quality is very good for the price in my opinion

And if anyone can recommend a split mechanical keyboard, I'd appreciate it. This one just doesn't jive with my fingers.

It isn't an issue with the analogs really, it's the fact that zmdc is still trying to connect to the previous device for some reason. It might be that instead of creating a new monitor, I just switched devices. I'm going to search my database for references to the old device.

gnulnx, do you have specific POE cameras or do you use some sort of device to yank the power out of the cat5 and power the camera?

hans109h: I have some vivotek and axis, and a poe switch that injects the power

I also have a separate poe injector (like a separate power brick) but don't need to use that as I have the switch

how much does a camera like that cost?

Plenty of inexpensive cameras have poe these days

I just picked up some d-link ip cameras, haven't had any time to play with they yet though
