        oh my!
      • i just did some detective work with wireshark ... there was a new item on thelan asking who has 192.168.1.1 and tell 192.168.1.136
      • IT'S THE CAM THAT WAS BROKEN!!!
      • the darn label with the MAC and default admin pass etc
      • says default ip is 192.168.1.128 !!!
      • but they hardcode a default of 136?!
      • not sure how it reset itself to that but im in the gui now

        jzaw: Oh nice
      • good thing you didn't completely break it!
      • jzaw
and ive been soldering and desoldering stuff too !
      • lol
      • it's working
      • zm sees the stream
      • all fix
      • hmm funny how it got itself reset for no reason at all
      • and to some bizarre ip not its default
      • well not very bizarre but not correct
      • apart from that
      • these are distinctly very easy cams to setup
      • the webui works in ANY browser
      • and the streams are easy (no passes required)
      • and on that happy note ... im off to bed nn

Can we make some sort of opt in survey what cameras are in use?
      • digdilem
        via zm? it doesn't know
      • only when presets are used, but they're never going to support all cams
      • golserma__
We could just ask the user what camera he is using
      • And maybe scrape the webinterface?
      • digdilem
        so many varieties, literally thousands
      • what's the benefit, ooi?
      • golserma__
We could create something like a most used toplist and add some amazon affiliate links
      • digdilem
        eww, no thanks!
      • golserma__
I still think there is a need of recommended hardware
      • digdilem, you don't like the list of most used hardware or the affialiate part?
      • digdilem
I'm not a fan of monetizing zm in any form.
      • if you were going down that route, you could market manufacturers to have a "Works with ZM" to get recommended hardware, but it should never be at the expense of any other hardware
      • which, i think would be inevitable if you got paid for such a scheme, to focus on easier integration for premium hardware
      • golserma__
I don't think manufacturers care about zoneminder
      • digdilem
        maybe not
      • golserma__
        How about zoneminder rebranded hardware?
      • digdilem
as above, provided it wasn't prioritised over anything else. (just my personal view)
      • golserma__
I'm considering buying 4-5 cameras at the moment and I must say it is very confusing to find hardware that is going to work great
      • There isn't a decent list of working devices
      • digdilem
yes. that's something that ONVIF is trying to address
      • golserma__
We could collect some money/hardware and maybe donate hardware to some developers?
      • If the hardware is in use we know it is going to work great?
      • Or maybe just ask some hardware sellers if they are interested in providing some hardware fore review=
      • digdilem
that's probably something the core dev team should discuss. (I'm not, I only have a vague role in support)
      • jzaw
golserma__, im with digdilem re monetisation of zm ... it's open and agnositc and should remain so imho
      • though there is a wiki where you can add camera details of cams you have had success with which is entirely different
      • i should add a page to that re the escam qd900wifi (good experiences easy ... vvvv easy ... to config and use with zm) and the revotech I539p (has fantastic potential a lovely image at night time but relies on CMS and windows for any config and crashes 2-6 x an hour at night so may it die and burn in hell for all eternity [unless they improve something in a MAAAAAJOR WAY] )
      • digdilem, is there a way to check if i already have an account for editing / adding to the zm wiki ?
      • i lose track of which sites and how i was registered to them
      • if i dont use them for a long while
      • ah jzaw is already in use
      • so that must be me
      • (though there are a few jzaw in the world ... mostly in hk or china)
      • password recovery?

jzaw, 2MP is a bit low isn't it?
      • jzaw, do you have a sample video of a qd900wifi daylight recording?
      • jzaw
        it's 1080p
      • remember STORAGE
      • something 2x the resolution will require 4x the storage for the same fps
      • i use 5fps ... will pull an mp4 as it's stored here ... brb
      • golserma__
1/2.5” Megapixel progressive scan MT9P006 CMOS <- sounds decent
      • Do you have it outside?
      • jzaw, sounds like this camera has a lot of "smart" software running on it? don't know if thats a good idea
      • jzaw
most of my cams are outside bar 3 usb ones (actually two usb are outside too for the last 3 years with no detriment as they are under cover)
      • i only have 1 ip cam inside
      • yeah i dont like that cams have p2p upnp etc etc all turned on
      • the revotechs defo *phone home* all the time ... my ip cams are isolated by vlan and firewalling
      • with the escams i can telnet in as root
      • and edit the startup scripts so things like p2p dont start up
      • golserma__
jzaw, did you try to kill the phone phome softwre?
      • jzaw
not found the root pass for the revotechs yet
      • yes for the escams i did kill those rc
      • golserma__
ok now i'm interested. VLAN + some bloatware removal sounds like killer to me
      • Did you try the version without wlan too?
      • jzaw
firewalled in a *proper* router mind not some general cpe
      • oh i kill the wlan on the escams
      • the problem is that 1080p model only comes WITH wifi
      • the non wifi one is 720p
      • but i only ever use them wired
      • their main asset is that they are fully configurable from ANY browser
      • no windows no special s/w required no activex
      • digdilem
jzaw, wiki, dunno - maybe try a lost password with your email address?
      • jzaw
        they arent the fastest at a a max of 15fps at 1080p ... but that's ok since i only need/want 5fps
      • digdilem
        oh, you said that after
      • jzaw
digdilem, i recovered my pass for the forum
      • golserma__
jzaw, you added thernet to the cam?
      • jzaw
but but it doesnt work for the wiki ... and it wont let me register as it says jzaw already exists
      • golserma__, added ?
      • telnet is already there
      • digdilem
cool. I have some mod level access for the forum, but not for the wiki
      • golserma__
jzaw, ah the cam has wifi+ethernet
      • jzaw
and prob like most cams WIDE OPEN ifyou know the password
      • golserma__
So you removed the module from the kernel?
      • jzaw
yes wifi and ethernet but i only use ethernet
      • barjac joined the channel
      • na i just edited the startup script ... not to
      • golserma__
OK, guess I'm buying one or two to test
      • jzaw
digdilem, i was going to do my bit for the community and add info about two cams and also ubuntu xenial 16.04 (and building debs)
      • golserma__, they dont have poe built in
      • which is a shame
      • id rather they had poe than wifi
      • DO NOT GET ANY REVOTECH CAM ... awful things ... great great images especially at night ... but at night they crash every 20-60mins
      • they auto reboot ok ... but it's not good
      • digdilem
definitely useful info to add to the wiki, if you can!
      • golserma joined the channel
      • jzaw
golserma__, if you can ip66 waterproof a poe splitter or at least extend its leads so that it can be hidden somewhere safe the tp-plink 10P splitter works well with a lot of kit and is the right price
      • £10 ish
      • digdilem, yeah id like to ... just as soon as we can prod someone to give me access ?
      • same again re the tp-link splitter ... useful little thing for not a lot of money
      • golserma__ has quit
      • piano shiny black ... if that's important
      • hehe
      • golserma, here are two stills side by side from almost identical vantage points
      • digdilem
jzaw, perhaps create jzaw2, or post on the forum asking for access? (Not sure who has admin access for wiki)
      • jzaw
one is escam (slightly narrower view) and one is revotech (slightly wider view) both 1080p not neccessarily fully tuned for contrast / brightness/ sharpness/saturation but give you an idea of the resolution
