good. hopefully what I'm working on will make ZM more efficient.

Hello, I am trying to figure out why people are getting broken images when OPT_AUTH is enabled --> this happens to some folks who don't use packages. The images stream perfectly when its disabled but don't when ZM's auth is enabled. I've read this several times in threads and this is a recent one: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?... --> given ZM uses its own auth, and no
and everything works fine when auth is not on, Im guessing its not a cgi-bin or Apache problem
where do I dig to figure out what is going on?
knnniggett
The first place you should always go when experiencing an issue is zoneminder's log file
asker_
Yup, unfortunately this is happening with another use in the ZM forum and I've asked him to tail syslog and apache error logs
knnniggett
That might be helpful too, but you should first look at the zoneminder log by clicking "logs" from the web console
asker_
based on past experience, would you know top few reasons why this may be happening?
knnniggett
It is very hard to answer "everything just broke" comments without any data
asker_
a) processes are not crashing
b) it only occurs if opt_auth is enabled, does _not_ occur if opt_auth is disabled
c) ZM does not use apache auth
so I think its quite specific, so wondering if this is specific enough to think of some areas or still too broad
d) The guy has reverse proxies enabled (something I know little about)
so I was curious if this set of clauses helps zero in based on what you have seen in the past. No worries, if you have time later do take a look at that thread I linked to above
knnniggett
Since authentication is working fine on most production systems, we need to know exactly how the system is installed & configured. From package? from source? What version of zoneminder?
Need mroe data
asker_
yup he went the cmake/make install route with Fedora
SElinux enforcing came to mind
but anyway, let me continue that thread - don't mean to pull you in if more data is needed
knnniggett
If he built it himself, then we need to see his build output to verify that it properly detect gnutls and/or openssl
asker_
ah great
noted
knnniggett
SELinux can cause problems, but it usually manifests itself differently
Many don't realize there is an official zoneminder repo for Fedora, so I will typically mention that.
asker_
May I quote you in that thread and ask him to turn to IRC asking for help and be more specific?
knnniggett
I will post a reply
asker_
ok thanks

I have 1.25.0 installed from a livecd with ubuntu that someone made. is there an upgrade path or do I need to build a new box?
or should I even bother upgrading?
I am mostly happy but the recordings of events have always been a mess. you only get part of the time there is movement
knnniggett
Sure you can upgrade. It's up to you. If keep your existing events is not important, then it might be easier to just install a new system. It is up to you.
quesker
upgrade how, using the ubuntu way of upgrading?
I don't care about keeping existing events but all my settings would be a pain to recreate I think
