bewees, to answer your questions of yesterday, you can set masks to not trigger on specific areas like curtains
and also tune various zones on a monitor to be more or less sensitive
you probably will get false alarms however though, that's generally a fact of life with motion detection. light changes = movement. Light is all it knows.
if you want something more specific, you need PIR or beams in doorways etc to trigger on movement, not just light

Good to know, thanks
digdilem, Do beams also use PIR?
digdilem
yes, I mean pressure pads :)
it's not just moving curtains btw - sunny days with clouds change light levels so much you can get a lot of false alarms then.
Titler: ROBOGUARD - outdoor security beams, diy security, roboguard portable burglar alarm, use it anywhere

I will only trigger alarm at night, thus daylight false alarms are negelectable in my situation

So the camera will hand over IR images to zoneminder. I guess IR cameras are different to PIR in that way that they are active, by radiating IR light actively

several cams can do both
y-cam black for example.
the colours tend to be off in white light tho
zm has x10 interfaces (and possibly newer better standards) which is another route if you wanted to tie in various sensors to zm or a computer controlled system generally

digdilem, That's good to know, thanks. So zm will only trigger alarm if e.g. my PIR sensor triggered alarm 5-10 seconds earlier? Then arduino ethernet module with a PIR would be solution to connect to the network http://www.aliexpress.com/item/ENC28J60-Network...
(Refering to x10 interface)
digdilem
i don't have any first hand experience with x0 bewees
nor specific items, I just know it's theoretically possible and others ahve done it :)
bewees
Ye, it seems to be worth an attempt
I think I'd add two PIR's (one wide ranged and short ranged PIR) and only if both PIR's detect motion, then zm should look for motion and if zm then also detects motion, then the alarm should go off
I am careful about PIRs, because I read they also do false alarms (since they actually also use (IR-) light for their motion detection)
Sagitt joined the channel
The advantage though is that PIRs probably won't trigger alarm on moving curtains
I guess using FLIR cameras instead of infrared illuminated cameras reduces false alarms a lot, but I only found FLIR cameras with actual IR sensors with prices about $50k
Is anyone here running ZM 1.27.99 in a Ubuntu 14.04?
I'm having problem with 1.27, I get "Shared data not initialised by capture daemon, some query functions may not be available or produce invalid results" in the log.
