        Hey olly, as a starter for SWIG PHP backend reimplementation, would it be okay if i committed a patch to SWIG issues with PHP labels?
      • to get to know the codebase.

        @olly, Are you aware of any search engine logs openly accessible ?
      • I have found Excite search engine logs to be open but it doesnot have click through data logged

        nihaln: sure
      • vamsi: it's hard to find search engine logs - pretty much every time someone's tried to release them people find ways to mine personally identifying information from them
      • i suspect your best bet would be datasets put together for academic evaluation (e.g. TREC, FIRE), but I'm not very familiar with what's available there
      • vamsi
        yeah.. I have mailed to some guys who said to have owning these logs in academia.. lets see
      • olly
        It's probably not important to have a lot of data
      • really the approach needs to be something that's been shown to work - 3 months isn't enough time to do original research and implement anything substantial
      • and if the paper showed it worked, you don't really need to show that too - you just need to show that your implementation works
      • vamsi
        so, as of now its better to focus on approach and implementation right?
      • olly
        for the proposal you mean?
      • vamsi
        yeah

        olly , jaylett I wanted to ask since I have not been able to figure this out correctly ...... is the index in the MSet::Internal::indexeddocs the docid or just the relative position of a document in MSet::Internal::items

        I'm on mobile so can't check, but the type may be a hint. docid is a defined type in Xapian.

        olly: I was confused regarding Ticket #734 ...... Finally after using learning to rank model on a query and document we want to return an MSet Object from which we should be able to retrieve the documents in the same order as suggested by Letor when we iterate through it
      • This would require us to change the indexeddocs as well as the MSetItems
      • its not possible to just change the MSetItems and expect that
      • when we use
      • for (Xapian::MSetIterator i = mset.begin(); i != mset.end(); ++i)
      • { Xapian::Document doc = i.get_document();
      • we would get the same order of relevance as suggested by letor
      • cause get_document first calls the indexeddocs with the index
      • and if the order in the indexeddocs isn't changed we will get the orginal order of documents ( i.e the order of documents that was there before letor came into the picture)
