Hello! I want to receive a message in the following way: First 2 bytes are reserved for a status number. Next 2 bytes specify the full length of the message. This makes 4 bytes. After this, the payload starts. I want to parse the second 2 bytes to know how long I should keep receiving and then close the connection.

How should I do this?

I am using struct to find out the bytes to receive. Now I have to find how to close connection after those many bytes are received.

I have a question about the behavior of `internet.protocol.Protocol.dataReceived()`. Is this method called several times during the transmission of the message? The docs say "partial (or multiple) protocol messages may be received", which hints that it will be called multiple times.

codingquark: yes, dataReceived may (worst case) be called once for each byte received; you have to "frame" messages yourself

codingquark: there are things like "NetStringReceiver" and "LineReceiver" that do particular types of framing for you

(but it sounds like yours is a little different than NetStringReceiver will give you though)

I feel my requirement is not "conventional" :-P

it's not that weird. but, you do get to do message-framing yourself ;)

Gives some pain, but is fun.
