the most annoying thing is how people keep stating that QC will break RSA in a matter of fact way while conveniently leave out all the details
waxwing: OT, mind if i ask you how do you usually type set more than one subscript in Latex? not the general way to do it, but how to do it aesthetically
waxwing
proslogion: hmm, never thought about it much. don't most people just run them together?
a_{bcd}
commas look a bit weird, is that what you mean?
proslogion
waxwing: i suppose, i did subscript of subscript but it looked ugly as sh*t
waxwing
oh subscript *of* subscript, yeah that doesn't usually go so well i think. but you can do it.
proslogion
yeah, saw you JM messages and reminded me of that
waxwing
i think you'll find it works better in a separate equation line, whatever that's called
if you do something like that inline with text it's going to be nasty i bet
proslogion
yes i know :)
waxwing
i remember from putting things like integrals inline ; it can be done, but better not.
proslogion
cool cheers

anyone want to speculate on how the bitcoin-xt situation will play out in the next 12 months or so
the miners will not accept it, i dont think checkpointing will work because the hash power mining on it would be tiny
so im guessing it will lumber on for the next 12 months not forking
if so, that implies our priority in any debate should be to treat the proXT people nicely and convince them to come back to core
assuming you're anti-XT like i am
waxwing
i don't think the discussion focuses much on 'XT' any more.
proslogion is wonder whether the author of 'Fight Club' is a Keynesian
palahniuk? hmm not sure his philosophy
doubt he's particularly interested in keynes
proslogion
given long enough time, everyone is died etc :)
so i think the relevant point of argument here is the time frame, at some point in the future it's expected that the fee income will overtake the block reward income, at that point, miners should theoretically be incentivized to increase the block size
but time frame, time frame...
and i don't get why the apparently very transparent industry of mining has so many trade secrets, we still don't know the break-even points of major miners
belcher
i guess its a matter of why would they share information if they dont have to
it would also be great if there was another large bitcoin subreddit
but it seems all the others are just places to talk about xt and brigade /r/bitcoin

so nobody in #bitcoin today answered me as to why my node was not seeing those warnings. i still don't know why.
maybe i am sybiled good and proper :)
proslogion
waxwing: how are these warnings generated?
if it's remote, did some decide to use his signal key(or whatever it's called) privilege? if it's local, then there could be a variety of reasons
waxwing
proslogion: yeah i'm not sure. i thought it was a WARNING level debug.
oh you mean that. no, it's automatic based on too many blocks in a time interval.
proslogion
like you node simply did not see the blocks at the threshold frequency
waxwing
it's *just* possible that timing delays caused me not to see it.
it seems like the delta is 10s - a couple of minutes
