now with the price crashing, is it a good time to promote bitsquare and tlsnotary?
      • waxwing
        oakpacific, probably not :)
      • yes an OB notary is mainly a keyholder as i understand it
      • oakpacific
i mean since exchanges are centrailzed, big money guys can easily manipulate the price
      • waxwing
oh sure, there are reasons now as much as any other time.
      • bitsquare isn't ready for use, though, anyway
      • oakpacific
yeah. last night we were talking about offering our own service, but i guess none of us is interested in eventually wound up running an exchange, unless for good reasons
      • so in general we probably have to wait for bitsquare
      • one thing that a centralized exchange offers is anonymity though
      • waxwing
oakpacific, i wasn't thinking centralized service as in exchange, more just a centralized arbitration service; on the assumption that most people can't figure out how to do it, or don't want to.
      • oakpacific
waxwing: the problem is on the Bitcoin side
      • who is escrowing the Bitcoins?
      • waxwing
        yes, service would include that
      • oakpacific
if we participated in that, we have to do something similar to an exchange
      • waxwing
not sure why it would be a huge problem?
      • oakpacific
waxwing: coz we need to invest in protecting our private keys
      • waxwing
also i thought that such a service could be used for other applications
      • oakpacific, nothing stopping us using bitrated for that aspect
      • oakpacific
waxwing: yeah, but when it comes to marketing, a product for everything is a product for nothing
      • our failure in promotion maybe attributed to the users' lack of interest in anything they can immediately act upon
      • of course it also has to do with our lack of willingness to go out of our way to promote it :)
      • waxwing
re: immediately act upon, probably, yes. but also it's not something easy to assess, even if it's easy to use.
      • re: go out of our way to promote it, as i've said before, i'm not averse to promoting it, i just don't know how. also, without some complete end to end solution for using it in the context of trading bitcoin (e.g. bitcoin), i'm not sure what kind of promotion is appropriate.
      • it's more a question of testing right now. and proof of concept. for example, i'm happy to let people audit my address as a proof of concept.
      • e.g bitcoin i meant, e.g. bitsquare :)
      • oakpacific
waxwing: yeah, you made exactly my point
      • we can't involve people in decentralized trading driectly, so it's not something they can immediately act on, and say "wow this is cool today i see the future"
      • it's a dispute settlement solution that you may not even use once in your lifetime
      • and people are generally not interested in testing things they are unlikely to use
      • waxwing
right, it's a backend thing. not sexy :)

i think soon bitsquare will have more devs than tlsnotary have testers :)
