found it... the local package caching proxy didn't allow crt files. :P

twobitsprite: If you can, run the RH packaged solution. The people here give great support, but Satellite6 is a tested package of many moving parts, and as I run a similar setup as you are, I can say getting them all to play nice together is not always easy.

standard centos7 clean install + using exact repos given in install instructions

the versions in the foreman repos are too new for the katello dependency requirements by the looks of it

PEBKAC; somehow I'd managed to install the katello 3.4 repo instead of 3.6.. My bad :>
