Hello. I'm having a problem uploading facts from puppet to foreman. Foreman is configured as the ENC per documentation, but facts are not being uploaded. When trying to upload facts manually using node.rb --push-facts it immediately returns without error, but I have no facts in foreman. Any pointers?

stbenjam, I ended up cloning the finish template and adding a sleep 1000000 so I could run the finish script by hand. And then everything goes fine... go figure.

So, I accidentally added a product+repo that I want to delete, but when I went to delete it, there was an error with candlepin... I skipped the step and resumed the delete task, and the project is still there, but now when I try to delete it I get this error: undefined method `content_id' for nil:NilClass Did you mean? contains_erb?

twobitsprite: can you pastebin the traceback?
      • twobitsprite: also if you can find that candlepin error, that may help us figure out what went wrong
      • generally anything that is doing a creation/deletion, you should never skip steps on
      • twobitsprite
It was yesterday when it failed and I checked the candlepin logs and there wasn't anything that seemed like an error...
      • I think the problem was just that I didn't have enough memory on the VM and the JVM process died...
      • where would I find the traceback? I'm just looking at the error reported on the web UI

      • Last time I was setting up Satellite 6 about a year ago, I recall there was a foreman-rake command to clean up orphaned objects, but I can't find it
      • Now I'm just doing a non-enterprise katello setup

      • twobitsprite: in the task, if you click on the errors or raw tab you may see it
      • dendazen has quit
      • or you might have to click on the 'dynflow console' button
      • and you may see it in there
      • twobitsprite
jsherrill: non-enterprise, as in, I'm running upstream, open-source foreman+katello as opposed to the pay-for Satelllite 6
      • jsherrill
        ohh yes
      • thats fine
      • how much memory did you have?
      • twobitsprite
        I think I had like 2G, but I upped it to 8G
      • If I click on anything, nothing happens
      • jsherrill
twobitsprite: yeah 2 G is not good
      • i'm surprised you got anywhere
      • twobitsprite
        I didn't get far :P
      • jsherrill
twobitsprite: would you want to just start over?
      • foreman-installer --reset
      • twobitsprite
But I've increased the memory now... so there has to be some way to get out of this, right?
      • jsherrill
should just wipe everything you've done
      • twobitsprite
I mean, I could, but that sounds like the wrong answer... surely there has to be a way to clear errors like this in the future, right?
      • Feels like it would be pretty bad design if there's no simple way to force removal of something if it failed half way through...
      • jsherrill
well, so you're not supposed to skip steps on things like that. There are ways of clearing it, its just not super simple
      • twobitsprite
What would have been the right thing to do when it failed the first time?
      • jsherrill
twobitsprite: resolve the issue (adding more memory and restarting), then 'resume' the task
      • twobitsprite
Seems like "skip+resume" was the default answer before when I ran in to failed tasks before...
      • jsherrill
its more 'fix the issue + resume'
      • skipping is rarely the right solution unless other things have gone really far off the track
      • twobitsprite
still seems like a bad design and/or bug that you can't just force removal of something, but ok
      • jsherrill
twobitsprite: yeah, we've worked to allow you to delete things in a half removal state
