mmoll: thanks, ill give that a shot. wasnt sure if there was a better way to do it besides just yum install. i know there is the katello answers file and i was thinking maybe there was something i had to put in there and rerun the installer.
mmoll
jamestown: ec2 was split out of foreman-compute, and yes, there's probably an installer option, but I'm only using plain fireman. not katello, so no idea

looks like that installer option is not valid. however, installing the package directly gets me the option to add an ec2 resouce.
thanks for the help. im sure ill be back with another silly question later.

hello all...running into very slow UI performance, yet vm itself does not seem pegged
wondering if some obvious fixes?
mmoll
lcurtis: it would be important to know where the problem is, high CPU load on the browser's machine, long loading times over the network or something else
roysjosh joined the channel
lcurtis: so it's probably best to fire up the network monitor of your browser and watch the time graphs
lcurtis
hmm...looks like ruby somewhat high cpu
but load on box still low
12 core vm
mmoll
lcurtis: /var/log/foreman/production.log also has logs how long each action takes
lcurtis
great..will start there
thanks for your insight

is there a way to make katello-disconnected, when running on a katello server, use the existing pulp DB rather than downloading all of the RPMs again?

hi everyone, setting up a smart proxy on my salt master for my foreman server. is /etc/salt/foreman.yml configured with my proxy's ssl key/cert/ca and domain, or foreman's?
BuffaloBill joined the channel
stbenjam
tapoxi: foreman.yaml configures how the proxy talks to foreman, so it uses the Smart Proxy's client certificates
hmm, so if I installed via packages and don't have puppet, I don't have client certs and need to generate them somehow?
stbenjam
yea you're totally on your own
if you use the foreman-installer (which is puppet-based) it does it all for you and you can follow the instructions in the foreman_salt manual
if you don't want to do that, it's up to you to setup SSL, there's some info in the foreman manual
tapoxi
yeah I'll probably just go with foreman-installer then, thought packages would save me the hassle of puppet on a salt server but I suppose I need it
Hypnoz joined the channel
stbenjam
yea it'd only be on the foreman and salt master (maybe the same machine), otherwise you won't need puppet anywhere else

ohadlevy: have you ever seen an issue where during provisioning (after foreman boots the server) an error saying some interfaces are invalid shows, but the provisioned host continues to build and get configured as if there are no issues?
