morning, if I run the setup for remote state on an existing terraform state file does it migrate that state to the remote state?

No, I mean I have a local state and then do a set up for a new remote state

so terraform remote push will push the ./terraform.tfstate and move/copy it into ./.terraform?

Just tested it and running the config command does that, no need to push separately

i've having an issue with terraform destroy erroring out "waiting for volume to detach from instance"

what's the special incantation i need to use to ensure that the instance is killed first, and then the volume?

I need to get the terraform.tfstate for a pre-existing aws vpc. Is there a way to do that?

I want something equivalent to ansible's

with similar _facts modules for subnets, security_groups etc.

I'm tring to use mantl in a hosted vpc where the vpc... subnets are already created and I'm not sure how to get an initial terraform.tfstate that works with it.

sure enough- I just found it a couple of days ago.

aws_security_group.SSH: Creation complete aws_security_group.SIP: Creation complete aws_security_group.HTTP: Creation complete aws_security_group.HTTPS: Creation complete Error applying plan: 1 error(s) occurred: * Resource 'aws_security_group.SSH' does not have attribute 'id' for variable 'aws_security_group.SSH.id'

so it gets a "complete" for my ssh security group.

but then later on it says that the group doesn't have "id"?

and so then terraform fails.

but then if i try again

aws_security_group.SSH: Error creating Security Group: InvalidGroup.Duplicate: The security group 'SG_USE1_PRD_foobar_SSH_V01' already exists

even more interesting is that terraform destroy doesn't back out the invaludi security group?

when i look at that SG in the console, none of the tags are applied either?
