Hello all. I am experiencing a ew issue with processing Stripe on my wordpress site. After submission I get an "Invalid Error" message, however, the payment does go through. Any idea why this error might be happening? I am afraid that people will keep trying due to the error and they will accidentally make multiple payments not know.
      • Thanks for any help provided.

        Entr0py: hey
      • if you go to dashboard.stripe.com/logs, are all of the logs there successful? (ie: a 200 response code)

      • tr12
        fair enough
      • I'm still sort of curious about the connect / plugin piece of this
      • whether a) he's running a single instance of this thing that's used by many people vs everybody running their own copy of the software
      • and b) whether all of the money is going to the same place
      • justinjaffray
a is definitely a single instance
      • tr12
so either vanilla stripe or connect depending on b)

Quick question: I just submitted my first-ever live Stripe purchase for testing. According to the API response it was approved, but it hasn't appeared in my Dashboard. How long should I expect to wait for charges to reflect there?
      • cperciva
juliench1rch: are you looking at the "live" side of the dashboard?
      • juliench1rch
        I am, yes.
      • I put it through maybe three hours ago.
      • tr12
juliench1rch: if you go to dashboard.stripe.com/logs, what logs do you see?
      • is there a /v1/tokens log, a /v1/charges log, or both?
      • juliench1rch
There are both. I clicked on /v1/charges and it there error is for an incorrect card, but I intentionally submitted an incorrect number before submitting the correct information.
      • Wait-I think it actually refers to the number I used that was correct, thought.
      • Though*.
      • tr12
        juliench1rch: what's the error?
      • juliench1rch
402/message: "Your card number is incorrect."
      • Which is pretty self-explanatory, so I'm going to give it another shot. Maybe I mistyped.
      • So are you guys just passionate Stripe users or employees of the company? :P
      • tr12
        I work for stripe
      • juliench1rch
Kudos on the documentation. It blows Braintree out of the water.
      • tr12
        thanks!
      • juliench1rch
Welp, that was simple enough. I realize what I did (used my old CVV which I have memorized instead of the one associated with my current card). Dumb. Thank you, though.
      • tr12
        gah, that'll do it
      • well, glad it's sorted out
      • though, if you didn't realize the charge failed earlier, did the error not get bubbled up to your UI?
      • juliench1rch
Nope, which makes me very glad I ran into this.

      • It's just a little slap-together thing I've been making to test Elm out, really.
      • vincent joined the channel
      • (It's not live, by the way; still just running locally.)
      • (Not in production, rather. I mean, I'm using the live tokens.)

      • tr12
juliench1rch: you should be able to use test cards to exercise all of this code, though
      • making real charges to test your code is technically against card brand rules (and by extension, stripe's service agreement)

tr12: Hm, I see. I'll take note of that. Not to be contrarian, but without knowing the inner workings of the API, isn't it more prudent to test against a real card just to ensure everything happens correctly than it is to bring it live without ever putting a sample charge through?
      • (The UI oversight I made notwithstanding...)
      • tr12
juliench1rch: ultimately, the thing you're trying to test is how your code integrates against stripe
      • and not so much how stripe's code integrates its upstream financial partners
      • how test mode behaves is very, very close to how things behave in livemode (minus money actually moving around)
      • lkozloff joined the channel
      • there's certainly some argument that testing with live cards gets you from 99 to 100%
      • the problem is that it's pretty likely to get your account flagged
      • juliench1rch
tr12: Roger roger. Well, time to switch back to test mode then. :) I have a UI kink to work out, obviously.
      • Again, I appreciate your help & insight.
      • tr12
I don't mean to be a stickler - just trying to make sure you don't shoot yourself in the foot
      • np!
      • juliench1rch
tr12: Believe me, I appreciate it. I'd rather know my mistakes sooner than later.
      • Hey, actually, that charge.
      • The error message was "Your card number is incorrect," not something like "Your CVC number is incorrect."
      • Forgive me if I'm missing something, but shouldn't the response be more accurate?
      • Precise, rather.
      • tr12
this is probably the bank doing something silly
      • in general, stripe just gets decline codes back from the bank, and translates them
      • actually, this may be the classic "wrong validation order" bug
      • it's sort of neat, actually, if you're curious
      • juliench1rch
        tr12: Sure, go ahead.
      • tr12
