        Hi
      • markin
        Hi Abdullah
      • Abdullah
Our customers are getting an error message when trying to pay
      • markin
        What's the error message?
      • Abdullah
Unfortunately we couldn't get the exact error message
      • But, I can share the failed transaction details if that helps?
      • This only happened when we opened stripe for our international customers
      • It was working well for US customers
      • markin
So if you open your stripe dashboard and go to logs do you see the failed transaction?
      • Abdullah
        yes
      • ID: card_1721C3ArTIYahejBtpJ0lN9y Name: No name provided Number: **** **** **** 0821 Fingerprint: cqng5LWVcQ4wxpGL Expires: 3 / 2019 Type: Visa credit card
      • markin
Is it a token request that failed or a charge? /v1/charges or v1/tokens that errored?
      • Abdullah
        both
      • Time: 2015/10/31 08:08:25 Method: POST URL: /v1/tokens Status: 402 IP address: 176.204.173.4 Version: 2015-07-13 Source: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 5.1.1; SM-G925F Build/LMY47X) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/46.0.2490.76 Mobile Safari/537.36
      • Time: 2015/10/31 00:38:45 Method: POST URL: /v1/charges Status: 402 IP address: 52.7.54.235 Version: 2015-07-13 Source: Stripe/v1 PhpBindings/3.1.0 Related: Charge — ch_171twmArTIYahejB2Rval2r5
      • markin
The logs should say what the error is
      • Abdullah
        I can see 5 that says /v1/tokens
      • and 1 that says /v1/charges
      • markin
So if you click it, it should show you the request and response, and the response would have the error that stripe returned
      • Abdullah
Your card's security code is invalid
      • Here is another error "Your card does not support this type of purchase."
      • markin
Well that would be the issue in that case, the bank is saying the card's security code is invalid, the other is that that card isn't allowed to accept purchases for the type of merchant you are
      • Abdullah
        "This card number looks invalid."
      • tr12
Abdullah: for the invalid cvc error, it looks like there's a trailing space after the numeric cvc value. the code submitting this value to the api needs to stripe that off first.
      • Abdullah
So the issue is with the customer credit card and not an issue with Stripe accepting international credit cards?
      • markin
The not allowed is a card issue, the invalid security code and card number could be that extra white space
      • tr12
Abdullah: "card number looks invalid" means that the card number doesn't pass a luhn checksum - this almost always a typo on the part of the customer
      • Abdullah
OK I'm not the programmer, I'll need to tell my team to fix the cvc issue
      • So I hope if I told them about the cvc issue you mentioned they will be able to fix it
      • The thing I remember is that AMEX has 4 digits and other credit cards are 3 digits for cvc right? could this be the issue somehow
      • scellow_ has quit
      • tr12
Abdullah: "not allowed" is a little bit vague, but usually means 1) the card is a type of debit card which can't be used to make online purchases, 2) it's a HSA or corp card which has a policy on it which only allows you to make certain purchases
      • Abdullah
Yes that's true, it's normal that most cards in Dubai in default has many issues to buy things online and you need to call the bank to be able to purchase online
      • tr12
Abdullah: I'm relatively sure that the CVC validation will fail unless you trim spaces off the value
      • at the end of the day, it depends on what the upstream issuing bank does with that value, but I wouldn't assume they do any sort of reasonable sanitization on it
      • I mean, they're a bank :P
      • Abdullah
Lol yeah, and Dubai banks are the worst! OK thanks man, appreciate your help and immediate response. Stripe rocks!
      • tr12
(we unfortunately can't sanitize the value because it's internally treated as a black box containing an encrypted value)
