Anyways, I was wondering if I am able to use a PayPal account in place of a bank account for accepting payments?
      • karljakober
most frameworks dont load up extra modules unless you specify for them, enabling them that 'f1' speed you prefer :P
      • markin
        STFLightning: not with Stripe
      • karljakober
while making things like templating, authentication, caching super easy to implement
      • markin
we should all move to the superspeed of Node!

Is there anyway to set up a system so it works with PayPal?
      • markin
STFLightning: you can just use paypal
      • wfpkhc
so where can i find the documentation for stripe 2.0 stuff?
      • koopajah
        wfpkhc: on our API doc?
      • markin
      • STFLightning
I wanted to use Stripe because I think it integrates nicely into a site
      • wfpkhc
      • markin
STFLightning: but Stripe requires a US bank account
      • as does pretty much any credit card processor
      • STFLightning
Can't you do it in Ireland or UK?
      • wfpkhc
what about Australia - im pretty sure i can use it here?
      • markin
STFLightning: yea, assuming you're in ireland or UK you can use a bank account there (or any of the supported countries at stripe.com/global)
      • STFLightning
Thanks, I'm just trying to get all of my stuff in one place and I'd prefer to use PayPal as that central account, maybe in the future they'll offer it as an option
      • wfpkhc
what happens if i need to update my bank account details? like swap bank accounts?
      • markin
I doubt it from a legal / regulatory standpoint
      • wfpkhc: nothing, just update it in your account settings

        he didnt even say goodbye?
      • how rude?
      • markin
Not really its irc, all the "hey, hows it going, what's new" is kinda annoying
      • koopajah
he did say thanks, it's IRC I rarely say bye when I leave
      • wfpkhc
i thought it would be at least the polite thing - especially if you are repeat
      • oh well
      • now im not expecting to make a million bucks but what if i do manage to make over $40K a month in transactions? but not at the start?
      • because my initial research said i had to contact stripe if over an amount
      • markin
I believe sales@stripe.com will reach out to you when that happens
      • wfpkhc
        ah ok
      • ninjaparade has quit
      • markin
you don't have to reach out to them, if you do they'll cut your rates
      • wfpkhc
        ooooooooooooooooooo
      • nice
      • What about GST (VAT etc) do i get charged on that? for example if i charge $40 and gst is $4 (10%) do i charge the entire amount or how does that work?
      • like do i do the charging and then you charge the 1.75% on that?
      • markin
you're responsible for collecting VAT I believe
      • rdymac has quit
      • wfpkhc
        thats what i thought
      • and then you deduct the 1.75 off that amount charged
      • markin
The Stripe fee is on the total amount charged
      • wfpkhc
        ah ok
      • markin
so you charge $40, you receive $40 minus stripe fees
      • wfpkhc
so they charge the card or they charge me?
      • ah ok
      • thats awesome
      • well im going to go and set up

        who is working @stripe?
      • wfpkhc
well i have been researching stripe and out of all of them, stripe, authorize.net, paypal etc - they seem to be the best - but i have read complaints that accounts have been cancelled without notice
      • cxwxz
        markin?
      • markin
wfpkhc: that can happen if you're found to be violating the terms of service, or doing illegal activity, fraudulent activity etc
      • wfpkhc
markin, - https://www.cardpaymentoptions.com/credit-card-... see the comments - Toni Thom
      • markin
cxwxz: the room is meant for community developer support, so anything that would require a Stripe employee has to be handled via email support
      • cxwxz
        markin: Cool thanks
      • markin
wfpkhc: that one sounds like they were in violation of one of the prohibited business https://stripe.com/prohibited_businesses

why is door to door sales banned?
      • cxwxz has quit
      • markin
wfpkhc: for one thing, you shouldn't be using stripe for card present transactions
      • wfpkhc
what do you mean by that?
      • markin
wfpkhc: Stripe isn't meant to be used where you have the card physically present like for physical instore or person to person charges where you would normally swipe the card
      • wfpkhc
        ah ok
      • what if i was an online travel agent - why couldnt i take the money and book an airline ticket? (not that im going too of course)
      • or "fortune tellers"

      • markin
If you're a fortune teller and it doesn't come true then the customer may want their money back
      • wfpkhc
        ok fair enough
      • but what about all the other people on that page with comments who say their accounts are being held?
      • like - jasmine - Eff
      • or Simon Fielding
      • or - Jordan

      • markin
so the terms of service do prohibit stripe to be used for personal use, so you have to be running some sort of "business"
      • The issue with that site, compared to BBB is that Stripe doesn't respond so you get only one side of the story
      • wfpkhc
        k
      • im willing to give them a go
      • markin
There have been many cases where people yell here at Stripe stealing their money when they were actually in the wrong and doing something wrong, but they think that if they yell Stripe will be forced to concede and give them their ill-gotten money. I'm not saying its always the case but you should take some of the stories with a grain of salt
      • wfpkhc
but how do they define "business"
      • markin
you are collecting money in exchange for a good or service
      • wfpkhc
        k
      • markin
that you are legally allowed to perform or provide

remember Stripe is working in Australia :P
      • are you guys shopify?
      • markin
Shopify is its own business / company
      • Stripe powers Shopify payments though
      • wfpkhc
ah ok because on that website it claims you guys are shopify
      • im just reading slowly down the page
      • markin
yeah, kinda the issue with sites where people can write anything they want
      • wfpkhc
Brian - states - Do not I repeat do not sign up for Shopify Payments aka STRIPE
      • sorry i dont mean to harp - im just researchign - this is my first ecommerce site

      • markin

      • wfpkhc
you think these comments are bad - YOU GOTTA READ PAYPAL man - the public has pitchforks and torches for those guys!
      • markin
all the payment companies will have these sorts of reviews. Credit card companies are a pain to deal with and people like their money
