        I don't think you can use stripe.js to charge a card, since if you could that would involve putting your private key in the public, stripe.js is more if you want your own credit card entry ui I believe (by a quick scan of the docs)

        Hey there, does anyone know if Stripe can give me a report of taxes collected?
      • TriJetScud joined the channel
      • TriJetScud
        nice, I never knew stripe had an officially "blessed" support channel
      • markin
        @ethanmad I didn't think Stripe collected tax
      • Luke_ has quit
      • ethanmad
        @markin, ok thanks. I guess that information isn't passed from Squarespace to stripe
      • markin
        no problemo, Squarespace might be able to get you some sort of report, stripe would only have total per transaction
      • TriJetScud
        ethanmad: I'd have something such as gnucash or something similar to shadow what squarespace is tallying up for your store's finances
      • sure it may be extra work, but hey, at least you can implement whatever the heck you like in terms of finding out how much you've collected in taxes
      • markin
        looks like Xero has some automated squarespace accounting that looks pretty nifty http://help.squarespace.com/guides/using-xero-w...
      • ethanmad
        Yeah, I'm in the process of signing up for Xero. It's not letting me finish setting up so I thought I'd try here and squarespace first.
      • TriJetScud
        ethanmad: iirc stripe only collects how much you want them to auth and capture on your customer's card
      • ethanmad
        TriJetScud: do you know if I can plug data from a website into GnuCash?
      • TriJetScud
        not sure, I haven't looked into extending GNUCash
      • I mean if you can write php or perl, you can easily hook data from another place into gnucash
      • ethanmad
        I wish I could, but I don't know either at the moment.
      • I'm going to try importing a crx into gnucash
      • TriJetScud
        I mean don't get me wrong, some of the cloud offerings are nice, but I have an uneasy feeling of having my business data on somebody else's datacenter
      • and not to mention that GNUCash's double book accounting system is somewhat annoying for the average person
      • mikejestes joined the channel
      • jasonjwwilliams joined the channel
      • and sadly GNUCash doesn't have multi-user support like some editions of quickbooks or peachtree has

        Is there any way to make the Stripe API refuse to create a new Customer if there already exists a Customer with the same email attribute? Or to query the Customer list to find if one already exists?
      • LtSquigs has quit
      • ethanmad
        hmm.. maybe the CSV squarespace gives me actually is useful and Libreoffice is botching the formatting
      • markin
        jasonjwwilliams, list all and do your own filter would be the closest way, or have an internal database that links emails to stripe customer id
      • jasonjwwilliams
        markin: Just implemented the former, but it seemed heavy handed.
      • markin
        yea, it would be nice for some fancier querying abilities, I've always just stored the customer's stripe token in our databases for easy accesing
      • jasonjwwilliams
        We're storing the Stripe customer_id in our databases, but there's always the small chance two people in the same Household try to sign up with the same email simultaneously.
      • Just trying to ensure there was belt-and-suspenders to prevent multiple customer records at Stripe.
      • ethanmad
        Ok thanks guys, issue resolved. Turns out Libreoffice can't handle CSV files
      • ethanmad has quit
      • markin
        yea, nothing really on the stripe end to do it that I know off, creating the user in your databases, (ensuring the email is a unique field) and then creating a stripe customer would work
      • jasonjwwilliams
        markin: Yeah that's already being done. Thank you though.

        quick question - must stripe.js be loaded from stripe.com? Or can I load it myself? I ask because it's actually a little slow to fetch - much slower than the other JavaScripts files on my site

        i mean technically it works fine just loading it like any other asset, and I don't see why it wouldn't - but nowhere is it mentioned whether it's preferred to load their copy

      • it'd be great to hear from someone on the #stripe team but I guess they're all out of the office at this point

        hey testy
      • You familiar with stripe.js?
      • testymctesterfac
        not with the actual source code, but i use it to retrieve tokens
      • capitalf
        So I'm capturing the bank acct info and getting a token for a recipient

        hey guys, have a few questions around stripe connect, anyone around?
      • capitalf
        I have the data-stripe attribute or property in my form, and i'm trying to pull it using jQuery $(.country).val() for example.. it's not working with data-stripe, but works when i use 'country' as a class
      • just wondering why mine doesn't work using data-stripe
      • $('.country').val()
      • testymctesterfac
        @capitalf sorry if i'm misunderstanding - but if you use the data attributes, you shouldn't need to pull the value with jquery - stripe.js should pull it for you. and you're saying that's not working?
      • and that only works if you pass the form to the createToken method
      • capitalf
        the docs said you have to do Stripe.bankAccount.createToken({....
      • country: $('.country').val(),
      • routingNumber: $('.routing-number').val(),
      • accountNumber: $('.account-number').val(),
      • testymctesterfac
        oh gotcha missed the bank account part
      • as far as I can tell from the docs, the data attributes only work for card.createToken
      • capitalf
        yeah the docs aren't specific about that part.. https://stripe.com/docs/stripe.js#collecting-ba...
      • testymctesterfac
        it may just be that they didn't want to repeat themselves. did you try passing the form itself to bankAccount.createToken(), with the data attributes on those fields?
      • capitalf
        I did but it hangs because my form has an image that is uploaded too :/
      • testymctesterfac
        what did your code look like when you tried it?
      • (just the method call)
      • capitalf
        you mean the javascript?
