zekesonxx: do you know any ruby?
-
zekesonxx
ZucchiniZe I can bullshit my way though it, yes
-
ZucchiniZe
you should learn it
-
-
simple sinatra app for rendering gh profiles
-
rendering is done serverside
-
zekesonxx
Why?
-
Express exists, is based on the ideas of sinatra, and works in a language that doesn't make me want to kill the core team
-
ZucchiniZe
Why do you not like ruby?
-
zekesonxx
The syntax is weird and the results of their community horrify me (Haml, SCSS, CoffeeScript).
-
ZucchiniZe
I use all of those languages and they are aweseom
-
HAML is bit odd I must admit but coffee and SCSS are both awesome languages
-
And once you get over the syntax barrier it is a very nice language to use
-
zekesonxx
But, why not just use Jade and Stylus instead?
-
ZucchiniZe
Jade sometimes has problems that haml has fixes
-
and stylus also has problems with inheritance
-
zekesonxx
And what are these "problems"?
-
ZucchiniZe
you have to have the & for inheritance and with scss and less it just renders without needing the &
-
zekesonxx
Huh?
-
& in Stylus is used to reference the same object
-
.bacon
-
&:hover
-
color: rebeccapurple;
-
ZucchiniZe
I know
-
I just tried what I was using and it works
-
I guess they updated it somehow or my stylus install wasn’t working
-
zekesonxx
And what are Jade's problems?

I'm working on implementing 6to5 ATM
-
Spider_GitHub
[13spider] 15zekesonxx opened pull request #121: Replace traceur with 6to5 (06master...06es5-6to5) 02http://git.io/PYUlfA

Implementing 6to5 ATM
-
[spider] zekesonxx opened pull request #121: Replace traceur with 6to5 (master...es5-6to5)
http://git.io/PYUlfA
-
Namek
cool!
-
zekesonxx
And, right now, dealing with the magic of grunt
-
Namek
grunt sux. Personally, I'd like to have gulp in there, since it's much cleaner
-
-
but whatever, it's small Gruntfile right now. I had much bigger once
-
travis failed on your PR
-
zekesonxx
WHY DOES load-grunt-tasks NEED TRACEUR
-
Yeah I know
-
Namek
I don't know
-
try removing it and you'll know
-
zekesonxx
WHat?
-
Namek
remove the line "require('traceur')", then test grunt and see if it works or not
-
zekesonxx
What do you think I'm doing
-
Namek
:D
-
then don't ask "what" when you know what, it's counter-productive
-
what about that PR and travis? are you going to fix it?
-
zekesonxx
WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M DOING
-
Namek
"dealing with the magic of grunt"
-
zekesonxx
*sigh*
-
Namek
:]
-
zekesonxx
grunt-spider-script is really irritating here
-
Because I can't remove traceur without removing it
-
Or get it to call the working dir version of spider and not the latest revision on npm
-
Namek
-
weren't you?
-
zekesonxx
That's where the problem stems from, yes
-
Namek
if you ask mel, I think that Gruntfile.spider is overkill here
-
wouldn't removing Gruntfile.spider and leaving just Gruntfile.js be enough to solve the problem with traceur dependency?
-
zekesonxx
No
-
Namek
ops, no
-
zekesonxx
Gruntfile.spider is kinda overkill though
-
Namek
hmm
-
but how it's used anyway?
-
that dependency?
-
zekesonxx
grunt-spider-script is used to compile Spider itself
-
Although holy shit 6to5 produces cleaner code
-
Namek
well, it's stupid that Spider compiler uses grunt task using Spider compiler to compile Spider code.
-
zekesonxx
Well it makes sense
-
If your working branch produces broken code but doesn't fail then you have no easy way of fixing it
-
Namek
now I remember. When I tried to implement some new feature into the compiler I had to update spider compiler in grunt-spider-script's node_modules
-
circular dependency rulez.
-
zekesonxx
I'm trying to do that but it's being uncooperative
-
Builds fixed
-
Namek
package.json contains traceur now
-
in your last commit
-
zekesonxx
I know that
-
Namek
intended?
-
zekesonxx
Read the commit message
-
Namek
it would be best to create fork of grunt-spider-script, modify it as wanted and then link to it using package.json
-
and then create one commit for Spider instead of 2 (or even 3 in future?) of yours

don't merge the 6to5 pull request yet please
-
Namek
it had problems with travis so i didn't intend until it's made properly
-
alongubkin_
the travis problems are probably caused by the grunt plugin
-
Namek
yup
-
alongubkin_
it might have some other problems
-
with source maps
-
there are no tests for that
-
Namek
i think that #1 priority would be to fix tasks with importing modules
-
like issue #104
-
or #117
-
and taking #115 into account
-
Alon, are you able to do that before you leave us?
