so the problem in my quad where one of the ESCs spins faster than the other three even after range calibrationm
I just opened up the quad, hooked each ESC individually to a receiver and calibrated it to my transmitter's throttle range and then played with throttle... the bad one was the same
it must be my CC3D board then, but I'm fairly sure I tested the ESC by itself (unplugged the others) and saw the same problem even after calibration on my computer
so confused
Phlarp
so it just won't take off at all?

ricket
it would take off okay
it was just one-on-one testing the ESC, that esc's idle speed was a lot higher than the others
like the other ESCs you'd have to set to like 60% throttle to match the one ESC at idle (the very lowest throttle that spins the motor, spins it much faster)
anyway it seems to be gone now even via CC3D. just did a calibration and tested each one and idle speed for all four is fine
oh in my very first statement I meant to say "is gone"
the problem is suddenly gone tonight
so I guess all that's left is to put it back together, and to adjust the angle of the camera a little less extreme, and then I have to mess with PIDs
I guess the good news is the ESC I bought can now go into a FT mini plane if I just get a mini motor and 5g servos
and i'd need small batteries... lol I don't think I'm going to bother with the FT mini series

omg i just finished one of the most annoying things i've ever had to do
so I was adjusting the angle of my FPV camera, and unscrewing the nuts with pliers, and my pliers scraped the circuit board and knocked a tiny component off, like 1mm
it was on the back of the board which I wasn't planning on fully taking off, so now I had to take it off in order to get to the spot and resolder the component
so it's just completely black, a tiny letter or number on it but who knows, no indication of which direction... hopefully it's bidirectional so I just solder it randomly
so then all the time screwing the FPV camera back in, put the rest of the quad together, etc
turn it on and guess what, black screen, but the configuration menu overlay works so it's not totally broken.. must've goten it backwards
take it back apart, take apart the annoying bracket, desolder it, resolder it (it's so TINY), check and IT WORKS!
back into bracket, back together. whew. but man was that little tiny component annoying.

Hi
wot
Hello! (^_^)/

ricket: been there before. the hot air soldering guns are magic for this stuff. I've gotten the direction wrong before and ended up having that fry something else on the board.
the real lesson seems to be vigilance in dealing with bare electronics
ricket
yea I got lucky. and I've seen the hot air guns but don't have one... would've made it easier to get the stupid thing off of the board once I'd already soldered both sides lol
Phlarp
yes, you can just hit it with some heat and then pick it right up with a tweezers
ricket
in any case, quad is flying and ready for tomorrow
but it does fly mediocre, it drifts and has some yaw drift too... hope I can figure out how to get that out
Phlarp
mine too. got all my ducks in a row for FPV too
although still need a sma cloverleaf antenna for the googles
I only had rpsma :(
bastards and their ever so slightly different standards
ricket
yeah I wish there weren't two separate standards
Phlarp
FPV is a minefield of standarsd
between antennas connectors, cloverleaf turn direction, radio channels and yea---
you have to be pretty careful.
ricket
and it seems like antenna connectors are much harder to cut & solder than battery connectors
Phlarp
ugh yes
the board connectors are near impossible to desolder even with a hot air gun
and crimping your own antenna connectors isn't much of a cost savings between the connectors and the crimper
ricket
it's 2:30am here, I'm just waiting for batteries to finish so I can go to bed.....
should have started them much earlier and then they woulda long been done by now, except for my couple nimh
Phlarp
where do you charge?
ricket
either in the garage or up here in my loft, depending on where I am
Phlarp
I'm in an apartment
so no garage
I always fireproof bag them to charge, but a lipo fire would be no fun inside~
no doubt it'll happen sooner or later.
ricket
I have a couple lipo bags and a pan from the oven (small with high sides), a little spray can fire extinguisher and of course fire alarm (in the garage I have a fire alarm mounted on the top of my shelving unit so that it'll go off as soon as any smoke appears)
Phlarp
I have a fire extinguisher
but I fear it will be no match for a lipo
ricket
my hope is it will keep the things around the lipo subdued until the lipo stops doing its thing

Hii
So I'm debating cheating out on a charger and getting an Imax. Or getting a cellpro or icharger
