Tengo la configuración que te comente

que es esta:

SOCIAL_AUTH_EMAIL_VALIDATION_FUNCTION = 'apps.users.mail.send_validation'

SOCIAL_AUTH_EMAIL_VALIDATION_URL = '/email_sent/'

Entiendo que la función send_validation se llama automáticamente al declarar SOCIAL_AUTH_EMAIL_VALIDATION_FUNCTION
