Btw there is a Ubuntu "ppa" for salt: add-apt-repository ppa:saltstack/salt

If you find a recipe for installing Salt on OpenBSD it would probably be appreciated if you sent the instructions to the salt-users mailing list.

Or better yet, adapt it to the bootstrap script. :)

I was only googling a bit, and thinking it looks more and more like a dead end street until they replace M2Crypto and the dependencies of old variants of SSL

probably, but I don't think I have any "use case" today for Salt with OpenBSD (and if I get that in the future, they have probably fixed it then)

but that is that pip cant install it on fedora systems, you need to run a script

Remember to:

pip install -U distribute==0.6.35

USE_SETUPTOOLS=1 python setup.py install

^--- inside the Salt source tree

That solved some problems for us yesterday.
