your web server (apache, nginx, ...) is already doing that

where to look for that?

I'm in the process of adding a background worker for sending digest emails

If not, does anyone have suggestions on what they would use?

The worker needs to be able to communicate with the same database that Pyramid uses (preferably using the same SQLAlchemy models)
