I'm pserving production.ini on port 80
-
but for some reason when I go to the domain I've linked to my box
-
it's having "Server not found" issues
-
x58
Is DNS set up/configured?
-
Firewall disabled?
-
grouchosnarx
I've got the correct nameservers in place
-
x58
Or at least port 80 allowed?
-
What's your domain?
-
grouchosnarx
recordcollector.co
-
x58
* connect to 45.55.165.98 port 80 failed: Connection refused
-
grouchosnarx
let me try serving it again
-
x58
Nothing is listening on port 80, or it's blocked by your firewall.

had to update a couple dependencies quick
-
x58: ok, it's serving now
-
but nothing happening at the domain
-
Method__
yep, 500 error
-
x58
I get an internal server error
-
500
-
Method__
app is running though
-
grouchosnarx
indeed
-
x58
-
grouchosnarx
looks like that's at least running now
-

-
Method__
so either a dependancy is failing or your root route has an error. same thing doesnt happen locally?
-
grouchosnarx
cool, that's actually a good sign
-
I know why it's happening
-
it's the postgresql db
-
doesn't exist yet
-
I'm a little unfamiliar with the roles/pg_restore heirarchy
-
I can access the postgresql role
-
but from that prompt I can't access my dump file
-
and when I try to run pg_restore from root
-
I get this
-
x58
It sounds like you need to read the PostgreSQL documentation on how to set up access properly.
-
grouchosnarx
pg_restore: [archiver (db)] connection to database "reccollect" failed: FATAL: role "root" does not exist
-
x58: I thought that's what I was doing haha
-
I guess I'm just missing something fundamental on understanding still

ok
-
database is intact
-
still can't connect
-
guessing it has something to do with my path?
-
or the port postgresql is running on
-
looks like it's on 5432
-
nice
-
x58
grouchosnarx: Make sure postgres is listening, that you have the user allowed to connect, and use some sort of password based auth.
-
grouchosnarx
x58: it seems to be listening based on running pg_lsclusters
-
and I assumed setting the correct sqlalchemy.url in the ini file constitutes the password based auth?

yes! finally
-
-
still needs a lot of work
-
but it's alive somewhere
-
x58
You have no DNS records for www.
-
grouchosnarx
x58: interesting
-
what does that mean?
-
x58
-
So web browsers can't find it.
-
grouchosnarx
(noobest question of all time perhaps)
-
oh
-
Method__
whatever registrar you use, add an A record for www
-
x58
You need to go into your DNS settings and add an entry for it.
-
Method__: No, not registrar.
-
grouchosnarx
thank you!
-
duh
-
Method__
x58: >.>
-
x58
grouchosnarx: in DigitalOcean's DNS thing add a record for www.
-
Method__
oh.
-
grouchosnarx
sure
-
that makes sense
-
x58
Method__: His registrar is GoDaddy (shitty choice...) but his DNS is hosted by DigitalOcean.
-
Method__
gotchya.
-
I use godaddy....
-
moving everything to aws soon though
-
everything = domain
-
grouchosnarx
x58: what do you recommend over godaddy?
-
x58
-
namecheap is good, or I personally use
name.com
-
Method__
yeah I know all the godaddy horror stories.
-
x58
If you use
name.com though, don't use their DNS service :/
-
Method__
namecheap is good. I got my ssl cert from them.
-
x58
Google also has Google DOmains.
-
-
grouchosnarx
I really only grabbed this as a temporary setup in order to show the client I've contracted with my progress
-
we're keep his current site up until development is complete
-
x58
grouchosnarx: Eh, looks fine to me. I'd reverse proxy to waitress though.
-
Method__
nginx is amazing.
-
x58
Besides that, don't run on GoDaddy at all.
-
grouchosnarx
but I'll definitely keep those in mind for future reference
-
x58
PLenty of other registrars that are better.
-
grouchosnarx
-
but I was friendly with the guy who started it so system administration troubleshooting was a breeze
-
great, personalized service
-
any ideas on why an image in the static directory wouldn't be showing up?
