I have done some changes to my local source code, however, the master branch has done some other changes. How can I force git to update my local code with the source code from the master branch no matter discarding my changes
cloudflare was kind of disappointing because it says it does all these neato things, but then doesn't really provide you with much detailed insight, just a bunch of pretty charts
Charlie_X
That's why you need to run tests.
stevepiercy
huh?
Charlie_X
Configure and test to see whether it works
You can run checks against the CDN and the origin.
But there is a pretty big incentive for CDNs to use pagespeed to reduce bandwidth
stevepiercy
oh, no, i meant for example, what kinds of attacks are blocked
Charlie_X
Mainly DDoS and networky things
Well worth it just for that.
stevepiercy
well, that's the thing. i like to know details in that area
Charlie_X
The script kiddies can now run floods of GB/s
Can't really say much about what Cloudflare has as we use Akamai.
DDoS and networky stuff is in the CDNs interest. They need to know how to handle malformed TCP/IP
stevepiercy
yeah… they kind of dumb it down when explaining it
rickmak has quit
i run my own iptables and fail2ban, and that does a pretty good job
Charlie_X
They don't want to scare off managers
dstufft
iptables and fail2ban doesn't really do anything if the incoming traffic just saturates the pipe
Charlie_X
They also want to sell the advanced stuff at a premium.
stevepiercy
part of it is a perverse curiosity to learn what attackers are doing these days
dstufft
the most common is still the simpliest afaik, send as much data as you can to clog up the pipes
stevepiercy
yes, saturation could be a serious problem
Charlie_X
I think I've got some Akamai presentation somewhere.
dstufft
getting easier the more available high speed home connections with lots of pipe becomes
Charlie_X
Flooding is a major problem.
stevepiercy
so far it has never hit me. maybe i have small shitty websites
Charlie_X
Yes, you do.
dstufft
I don't think PyPI has ever been DDoS'd either tbh
other than with actual legit traffic
Charlie_X
I've seen data centres taken down just by flooding. Because the idiots wouldn't spend money on a CDN
