was having a conversation with a co-worker about how great it is to discover the answers to complex questions without needed to go to the source

Is there a way to run has_permission without the request?

well, for has_permission you need the user, for which usually you need the request

but maybe you could look at the source if you can refactor out all you get in your own way without the request

hmm, from the request it gets the registry to get the authentication and authorization policies

Yeah I was just looking at it. Looks like something I would want to replicate.

what's your usecase though?

I mean mostly a request is something that is hanging around anyway in pyramid code

Just was looking for an easy way out to pre-compute permissions to hide controls.

I actually can't remember why I was using the viewing user instead of the entire request.
