frogor: but yeah i have a mech kb with blue switches.. its pretty good
frogor
But yeah, literally, if you wonder why a keyboard does/doesn't have the right-angle Enter key, it's because of which standards group the keyboard was designed around: ANSI vs. ISO
chilcote has quit
Or more accurately, which country the keyboard came out of design-wise
ANSI = American
mosen
I figured as much
frogor
ISO = Euro
DialsMavis
frogor, I _get_ all that standards stuff. It's more about the logic behind the design of the right angled return key. why!?!?
;)

DialsMavis: theres probably some archaic typewriter reason

I assume so

DialsMavis: It looks like IBM is responsible for both problems.
mosen
DialsMavis: ahh mech keyboards are the vogue but i wouldnt say it makes a massive difference
frogor
The original vertical enter key is from the IBM Selectric electric typewriter - when they removed the carriage return lever.
They mention the Selectric as I found, but they claim the ISO standard was developed -first- and then IBM conformed to it / offered a version of it.
mosen
the original embrace, extend, extinguish?
frogor
So really the vertical key coming back to computers (after being left behind on the typewriter) is nothing but the fault of Europe :p
mosen
it's a hard problem with so many language variations
german has esszet + umlauts, french has two accents and the circumflex .. etc
sarbs joined the channel
can't explain the UK keyboard though

so we're no better off now than when we started this conversation … I still blame Europe and IBM for most of my woes

I'm trying to set up Autopkgr and it want's me to pick repos....how do I know what repos to pick?
Just.....whichever?
elliotjordan
Psychodata: depends on which apps are you trying to package up
tsuter
Enable all of them, it won't harm anything
Psychodata
ummm....so far I'm just getting started.
elliotjordan
Psychodata: well then, start with the first repo in the list. that one contains Firefox, Chrome, other standards
as you find you need more recipes, click the "Search for more recipes" button and type in what you're looking for
it'll tell you which recipes you need, and give you the option to add them
Psychodata
As far as special things, I have 4-5 different versions of adobe creative stuff in different places, but that's mainly the only thing that's ...special i guess
elliotjordan
it'll tell you which repos you need, rather
Psychodata
Okay, so the search finds those apps in the repos
elliotjordan
yep, and lets you add the repos you need
subsequently, you'll see the recipes from that repo in the "recipes" list
Psychodata
so, for instance, our File/Video production degree program uses a program called MPEGStreamclip
if I want it, I search for that
elliotjordan
exactly
although i don't see any recipes for that particular app
but you have the right idea
Psychodata
and I can just point it at my Munki repo and it will add things to the repo as I add them, and make sure it's always up to date
elliotjordan
that's the basic idea, yep

aaannnd I can use Munkiadmin to kind of view and maintain what is in the munki repo
