Morning guys!

This is massively off topic, but does anyone know anything about employment law?
franton
enough to know that it varies from country to country and that you really need a specialist lawyer
_nix
Lawyers are expensive, I'm not in any trouble or anything...

franton
in that case google is your friend

it's a seriously complex section of law, beaten only by IP I think

UK, I've googled it. New company wants me to start in one month, my contract here is three months. I juts need to negotiate it down

go with the classic one: "Do you really want me here for three mouths when you know i'm just waiting to quit and got no amitions left?"

Nope

From what I've read, it would be deemed "unreasonable" for them to make me work 3 months. It helps that I've had colleagues leave within a month, but their contracts were obviously differenct

_nix: perm or contract atm?
Creops: i'm not even sure there is an IT workers union in the UK..
Creops
macmule: then start one! but some of the unions might have it as a part of them
macmule
i think franton could be more of a union leader than me!
franton
hardly ;)
although i've dealt with a couple unions
btw: joining a union won't solve your current issues. they will only deal with issues occurring from date of joining
at least in the UK ...

Calibrate Apple Thunderbolt displays... ehurm, any ideas?
nbalonso
makab3r: there is a calibrate wizard in system prefs
nbalonso yeah, that one. But ehurm, I think they want something else, like an external calibration tool
nbalonso
makab3r: then as macmule suggests there are usb thing(ys) that run the color calibration for you
macmule
_nix: ahh.. i'd just approach the bosses & have a chat with them.. (not sure if feasible). Oh & FWIW, i'll be in the same boat

@macmule were the creatives satisfied with the colormunkis?
@nbalonso yeah, true. I'll look at it.
macmule
makab3r: at the old place, yep.. this was a design studio.. also used them back in the OS9 days for a paper i was supporting
makab3r
@macmule What type of display did you calibrate? I figured it's harder to calibrate something that has a glossy finish than something that's matte. But that's me guessing.
macmule
makab3r: they were all Matte tbh.. not sure about the current displays..
