~later tell marsbard Hey ! Mattermost seem to be the most advanced alternative. the second being Rocket.chat. I tried the last one on my server, was quiute nice too, but neither of them are close to Slack yet. Tell me your thought once you installed it :)
marsbard
hi twen
~later doesn't work here :-/
luckily I am here now :-)
mattermost looks good, feels very slacklike
haven't tried rocketchat
for me anyway the content previews aren't a really compelling feature. Easy file sharing though is
mattermost seems to handle that OK in my limited testing
twen
oh shoot.. I wasn't sure =)
about the later
booth mimick Slack interface. I think any alternative will do the same. As does Telegram too
ONe thing that is important is we select an alternative tools : does is work on Mobile device too... and is it a request to have it on mobile
marsbard
telegram only 'kind of' free though?
persistence of presence across mobile is a useful feature, but I already have that with IRC and email :-P
twen
yeah, telegram is not fully open, They explain it on the site what part is not open (at least they are open on the closed part ;) )
marsbard
lol
twen
for IRC, the persistence of presence is not a simple thing to do. it's not "built-in", you need an extra step between you and IRC. Depending of the population, it may be a difficult step to do. (I don't have irc on my mobile or tablet)

that's true, I use quassel http://quassel-irc.org/ with the core part running on an internet server

I probably need to learn that aswell, I use the webchat.freenode and there is nothing regarding persistance :P
even notification doesn't seem to work in firefox whan an update is placed.
And every now and then (couple of hours) session is ended
Probably I'm the only one having these issues :)
marsbard
shazada: so I can see two plus points now for a slack-like solution, one is the ability to share files, which is a pain in IRC, the other is that it manages persistence for you and plays back the bits you missed when you log back in
shazada
yes and the multiple channels you can subscribe to
if I want to discuss INFRA stuff, there is nog orderofthebee-INFRA channel
marsbard
oh there can be though
once we got approved for #orderofthebee we are allowed to have any #orderofthebee-* subchannels
shazada
I know, but it's not in the same client.
marsbard
it is
shazada
okay :) cool
AFaust
depends on the client - if that can handle only one IRC channel at a time...
marsbard
maybe the web client makes it a bit weird to get at, not sure, IIRC it puts buttons up if you are in more than one channel
AFaust
But who would use such a client...
shazada
and emoji :P, very important. Maling or chat can be harsh without the intention to be it
marsbard
I have never ever seen an IRC client that could only handle a single channel :-D
shazada
lol
marsbard
hey shazada, before emoji we had smileys! you know ;-)
AFaust
shazada: IRC has emojis - @marsbard just used one
shazada
I have one, but then I need to switch the UI fully
lol, I like  (Y) and many others I don't even know the shortcuts to
I'll need a cheat-sheet to learn them for the sake of IRC
AFaust
+1 => thumbs-up
marsbard
yeah I have also seen   etc, pretty understandable
shazada
I'm still bedazzled to see the responses regarding a new tool........
I guess it was less effort to just set it up and start using it
marsbard
and the super ancient <G> or <grin> that resplin favours, originally from the 80s cross atlantic bulletin boards
shazada
and after 5 months do a review.
All this time we could have been build Clustering in Alfresco Community :P
:joke:
marsbard
shazada: sure it would be less effort to start using it, and fragment what is there without any real idea why. and don't forget the zombie apocalypse
douglascrp joined the channel
shazada
I'm not married to Slack, I like Telegram ass well
or any other similar
as well
marsbard
for me it has to be FOSS and self hosted
shazada
why self hosted if we could get an export?
AFaust
I am all for "just do it" - when it comes to something that could actually benefit other members of the community (read: "non-members of the Order") and that isn't just about us playing with cool toys...
I would e.g. very much prefer to "just do it" and have an official Order of the Bee artifact repository, hosted by INFRA
shazada
new toys are always cool, can maybe be the bump needed :P I'm not sure I'm just saying something cause I've said everything else I guess
AFaust
So we can collect and provide all the variously hosted community addons
marsbard
don't forget also that freenode is known as an IRC network where FOSS tools are supported, and people sometimes log on to freenode to look for a support channel for the FOSS application they are using
shazada
You now I had an idea to create a module which get's the addon's online in alfresco, and you'll only need to restart them. Heard that for 2 years that Alfresco is busy with it
marsbard
so we probably shouldn't throw the IRC Chanel away
shazada
I'm sure we can fix a Hook for slack :P
I'm sorry
marsbard
lol
shazada
for any other 2016 year tool
:P
AFaust
shazada: Yeah - that is one problem with Alfresco. They announce some idea and take forever to pull through
shazada
maybe this can be something for us to come-up with or develop
AFaust
Or half-heartedly abandon it along the way...
shazada
It will sky-rocket or Honecom Edition
cause it's only buit-in in our Edition
so people will have to download it
marsbard
yeah digcat and I were talking about a similar thing shazada, perhaps we can collaborate on it
AFaust
At BeeCon I shared a Tightning Talk with Oksana about addons the community needs. Support Tools / enhanced admin console was among them and your idea would fit rightin
shazada
sure why not
AFaust
Judging from the new mail thread though I reckon this might potentially be considered "overkill" or not "feasible"...
shazada
to reply or not to reply on the mailinglist
AFaust
yeah - normally I would be the last to reply, but this darn vacation has me able to actually participate in those discussions early on
