victorbrca: welcome to #mlug-ca

anyone knows if there's a way to configure your routing to go through a specific gateway outside of your subnet?
-
pretty much configure the second "hop" on the client
-
homecoder
victorbrca: you should be able to configure routing rules on the gateway
-
for the “second” hop
-
victorbrca: what are you using for your gateway?
-
victorbrca
dude... you keep forgetting that I'm the bad guy for the networking team
-
and I don't have access to anything
-
lol
-
homecoder
sp then no
-
you cant configure a second route
-
you can configure an alternate route
-
lol
-
victorbrca
yeah... but then you need two interfaces right?
-
homecoder
no
-
you can configure custom routes in linux
-
wait
-
well
-
second nic or aliased IP
-
victorbrca
yeah.. this would be default route but on the second hop...
-
let's say the default is
-
PC => Def GW => GW1
-
and I want to change to
-
PC => Def GW => GW2
-
I can ping GW2, but I can't assing it as the default route
-
because it's not on the same segment
-
homecoder
change your subnet
-
victorbrca
so I have to go through that first gw (Def GW)
-
but I want to force to go out by using the GW2
-
homecoder
broaden your subnet. 255.255.255.0 will keep with 192.168.1.x
-
do you remember your subnetting?
-
victorbrca
let me see

victorbrca: if you want, privmsg me the two IP’s.. well the first 3 octets
-
and ill get you a subnet mask that will work
-
victorbrca
they are using pretty simple 10. address
-
I just went a full set down and it works...
-
but something is still weird with the address resolution
-
homecoder
..
-
victorbrca
I didn't think chaning the mask would work because they are in such a different segment
-
homecoder
it depends
-
how different are they
-
like 10.2 to 10.48
-
or 10.2.2 to 10.2.3
-
victorbrca
10.42 - 10.204
-
homecoder
Whew
-
thats a class A
-
the only way for that to work is if your subnet mask is 255.0.0.0
-
why don’t you alias the eth0
-
into a virtual nic
-
and assign 10.204 IP to it
-
then setup custom routes to shoot through eth0:0
-
rather eth0:1
-
victorbrca
the routing part worked.
-
I got the new default route showing as soon as I changed the mask and applied the new route
-
the problem is that they are using a proxy that I'm not familiar with
-
I think the do DNS catching and redirect you to the proxy
-
I'm trying to change the DNS, but it's not working
-
homecoder
thats .. weird
-
the dns shouldnt have anything to do with it
-
a proxy isnt configured that way
-
well it certainly shouldnt be
-
victorbrca
I can't figure it out
-
if I type the IP of an address I can bypass the proxy
-
but if I type the name on the browser it takes me to the proxy
-
homecoder
do you have a proxy configured in the browser?
-
victorbrca
actually no... it still goes though the proxy
