Note that this document also covers marking traffic for transport outside of the datacenter

i didn't get the opportunity to read it yet

For the control message use case we just need to differentiate between 2 traffic types - underlay and control messages

And any marks MidoNet uses should not leave underlay infrastructure (e.g. they should not be seen by the edge routers)

Another thing to consider is that in LAN environment the switches are not often configured for sophisticated quality of service

At best they will differentiate between "normal" and real time (VoIP, video) traffic

So for non-control traffic, the best strategy might be to leave tos field to be zero

i was just looking for guidance to know which is the bit pattern most hardware recognizes

yeah, I don't plan on touching the tos field for tunneled packets
