to what end? what's the underlying problem you have today?

are you, eg, doing dynamic index names based on event metadata, and want templates to match various index patterns?

because the problem you have may be solvable, but perhaps not by the mechanism you envisioned

I /think/ you could solve it that way if you're constrained to the LS output

if not, would have to rely on the ES APIs
