Hello everybody!

i'm new to logstash, and managed to get a "syslog" config

Running standalone logstash works, using "sudo -u logstash bashc -c '/opt/logstash/bin/logstash agent -f /etc/logstash/conf.d/syslog.conf'"

But as a ubuntu service, there is no logging.

Should there is other config needed?

Works standalone, but no as a service

Any windows developers here who might be able to assist me in the first stage of setting up the dev workstation? i want to contribute but struggling in the first stages ...

@razzorBlade446, check the logs to see if the correct conf file is being loaded

That is the issue:

but standalone is the only actualy logs to elasticsearch

randavidovitz: I might be able to help get you started.

randavidovitz: Last time I tried, I was able to get things going on Windows with some effort, but I will say, it's much easier to just install a Linux VM if you want to have an easier time.

GregMefford: i actually downloaded ubuntu to get me started, but i want to create article so that window developers can also be able to contribute in minutes...

randavidovitz: Ah, that would be great! That was my goal as well last time I went through the process, but I didn't get a chance to write it up yet, and it's been a while so I'm sure some things have changed in the mean time. Happy to help if you have a question/issue that you want help with!

ive removed logstash from ubuntu, and using standalone with tmux for testing, loggin works

i was using "sudo -u logstash bash -c '...'
