yeah, there are tons of great people on irc
but you won't meet too many nontechnical people here
and a lot of great engineers aren't super active on irc
fb isn't a replacement for irc. and irc isn't a replacement for fb. i respect you acting on your thoughts though.

Lol, @zrl and I totally would have never introduced ourself if not for fb. And we went to a lot of the same hackathons--even college. Fb introduced me to a whole new range of people.
