for grpc-go, are the Context parameters tied to a specific open connection? Such that I can set values to the context and use them later knowing that it's the same machine I'm speaking with?

in grpc-go, context is tied to a particular rpc instead of connection. Inserting arbitrary data into the context is not the right thing to do. You should use metadata API to set value on it. And yes, you can attach a machine id to the context.

I'd basically like use a connection to identify a machine by its connection and maintain state for that machine over a series of request/response rpcs and know if the connection drops to mark the whole thing has a failure.

If I use the metadat API to give it a unique name at the start of the connection, will that be available to me through the RPCs so that I can maintain a state across RPCs?
