        hi OrlandoThrifter
      • OrlandoThrifter
I was just chatting in a live video on youtube where a lot of cool resellers hang out. we were just saying we need a 24hr chat room to hang out in. and shizam there already is one
      • badon
        Yep :)
      • Did you tell them about it?
      • OrlandoThrifter
        I just did :)
      • badon
        Are they coming?
      • OrlandoThrifter
gosh now i need to install an irc client on my phone again i actually have a use for it now
      • badon
OrlandoThrifter: There is also ##business+investing which is more active, but this one is growing too.
      • OrlandoThrifter
not sure if my message posted the video and chat ended :(
      • There are a few really cool folks that are always in the chats of videos about selling. I sincerely hope they find thier way here.
      • We can talk about stuff like how to handle a guy buying a tablet and now wants to return it because he broke it.
      • badon
        Yeah
      • That's tricky.
      • OrlandoThrifter
or tips on how to get that higher end value for your item
      • Shipping and listing hacks to save time and money!
      • We got into a bit of disgreement on putting an item in a small flat rate box, then putting the small flat rate box into a flate rate envelope to save 55 cents. is this considered a no-no?
      • badon
        I don't know.
      • I recycle packaging that way, though.
      • I take the used boxes that would normally be garbage, and reuse them as interior packaging.
      • OrlandoThrifter
the argument was if it was wrong to use free shipping flat rate supplies as packing for inside. or at least they were saying in the above example its considered 'abusing free supplies'
      • badon
A moral quandary or a legal one? Surely there are published rules, right?
      • LjL: Yeah, that's crazy about the sellers. The buyers are always right in a proper capitalistic deal, but governing intervention is needed to prevent abuses on both sides.
      • OrlandoThrifter
I didnt look it up yet or ask at the post office. im guessing the answer is not what i want to hear
      • badon
<LjL-Alplet> badon, gee, i think some of the sellers posting on r/ebay really are getting a power trip based on the contorted idea that since ebay favors buyers and the feedback system is "outdated", they should barely be held accountable for obvious mistakes, and buyers should never really use negative feedbacks *at all*. not the first time i see this seriously mindblowing kind of thread...
      • OrlandoThrifter
I'm finding that when calling cust serv, ebay is a lot more fair with sellers now. I just had a neg removed. the guy feedback extoreted me to try to get me to take back a broken tablet.
      • badon
OrlandoThrifter: He threatened you in messages?
      • OrlandoThrifter
yep. first call they said wait 3 business days then call back. after the buyers threat msg, i called again. luckily got a geek who understood rooting a tablet makes it fail to boot sometimes. saw the msg, and immediately found in my favor then removed the neg
      • badon
        nice
      • you got lucky
      • OrlandoThrifter
eating the cost of a $100+ return is not fun. I have used seller protection and appealed cases with great success
      • badon
        That's good.
      • OrlandoThrifter
in the beginning i got a lot of 'switcharoo' returns. didnt take long to figure out how to put a tyvek wrist band on items, if the band is removed - no can do, NO return
      • badon
How does that work? Where do you get Tyvek wristbands?
      • OrlandoThrifter
I take a picture of custom tags and tyvek bands attached to the item, included in the listing. cust serv can see it. if the buyer admits removing it, I win
      • badon
        That's a genius idea.
      • OrlandoThrifter
I order them on ebay, a couple sellers will even print your store name on them
      • badon
Could you do the same thing with a sticker?
      • Can you link to them? I've never seen them before.
      • OrlandoThrifter
shady buyers see the security band attached in the pics, and go scam elsewhere
      • badon
Yeah, if there's one thing thieves want, it's an easy target. Hard targets are harder than a regular job.

      • Do you have a listing up that I can see how you do it?
      • OrlandoThrifter
I cant figure out how to win - buyer returned used item cases. they ship it back and i discover they lied and did use it. twice ebay made me refund them and eat the ocst
      • cost
      • you see custom printed tags attached and tyvek band laying next to item in pics. its a great visual deterrant

        my 'recycled' clothing theme
      • measurements are in big foam letters too, prevents not as described for measurements
      • badon
        Nice.
      • How do you attach the Tyvek band?
      • OrlandoThrifter
through a belt loop, button hole, tag.. wherever i can. its got peel and stick adhesive on the end
      • badon
Why doesn't that work for used items?
      • OrlandoThrifter
not sure i understand the q
      • badon
<OrlandoThrifter> I cant figure out how to win - buyer returned used item cases. they ship it back and i discover they lied and did use it. twice ebay made me refund them and eat the ocst
      • OrlandoThrifter
most of my items are used. but i am marketing them as 'certified recycled'
      • badon
        Clever marketing!
      • OrlandoThrifter
well i cant figure out how to win a case such as where they lie and say it wasnt used but then when it gets back here it looks like they did use it
      • badon
        Tags still attached?
      • OrlandoThrifter
I have no way to prove it since it looks the same in a picture anyway. so cust serv makes me refund
      • if i get them to admit it was used and the tags removed before they send it back of course i win
      • badon
        Is it resalable?
      • They reattach tags?
      • OrlandoThrifter
once the item was physically torn. the other time i washed it and resold as used, but it was indeed a new item originally
      • Ive had a return request opened saying there was a 'hole' in jeans. the scammer attached a picture of a completely different pair of jeans with a hole
      • badon
You could prove it's different based on the lay of the fibers and the dye, right?
      • OrlandoThrifter
that day i was frustrated! i read in a user forum about the tyvek bands. watched a video of a girl on youtube explaining why she uses them. and hey for the cost, its worth it
      • yes. i was new to selling and didnt argue, i just refunded
      • badon
        Ah, OK.
      • OrlandoThrifter
the tags are attached with a plastic string just like big stores in the mall use. impossible to put back on unless you have a tag gun
      • for hard goods and smalls I am thinking about using a hollographic sticker that will say VOID if its peeled off. I've seen sellers use them on laptop batteries and ac adapters. prevent someone from returning the broke one
      • collage photos.. good idea or no?
      • badon
        looking
      • I have seen a lot like that, and I think it works, or people wouldn't put in the extra effort to make them.
      • I'm sure the people putting in that extra effort are motivate to accurately gauge whether it works or not.
      • Thus, it wouldn't be so common if it didn't work.
      • OrlandoThrifter
        right
      • so what i do to try to get the higher end value for an item is search for that item or something similar, sort by highest price first, then copy what that seller did. how did they arrange the title, what words did they use..
      • I have a youtube channel. like a grand total of 5 suscribers, and i probably come off as a southern dummy. but I will be adding vids each day to drop some major knowledge. All the tricks I learned that others dont want to share
      • badon
That's a good way to go.
      • OrlandoThrifter
like listing an item as shipped by 'padded flat rate' for $7.19 (full retail) then shipping it with a cardboard flat rate $5.75 actual cost
      • or rounding down. for example an item weighs 13.4 oz. put 13oz postage on it. round down

im not sure how guaranteed shipping date will work exactly. the wording for the handling time option still implys that in some cases the seller is left bearing the cost if it isnt there in time
      • its saying that ebay will only cover costs when the buyer opens a claim if there are weather or other major factors

      • badon
Better share the webchat link. Setting up a client is a pain.
      • Especially if they just want to check it out first.
