what sort of ebaying do you do, badon?

i do the sort of ebaying where i never sell anything because i hoard, and i never buy anything because it all costs too much

but you know that

I dis-hoard and sell in sporadic binges because it's quite boring doing all the listings and packaging and posting

but the promise of money eventually gets me going

but every time I do it I have to relearn everything

badon, i am interested in radio but not knowledgeable nor, honestly, willing to get knowledgeable enough to get licensed. i have been toying with an rtl-sdr dongle though, looked at it again in the past few days

LjL: It's mostly a waste of time unless you're really into the experimentation side of it.

If you want to actually communicate, amateur radio is legally crippled to the point of uselessness.

Besides, things like good quality FRS radios are vastly superior in performance, at much cheaper costs.

And you can use them with everyone.

SDR is a really cool development, and the best part is no license is required for just receiving.

badon, the rtl-sdr is a sweet spot for me because it's very cheap, it only receives which is a limitation but also means that i don't have to fret about doing the wrong thing, and it receives a *lot* of stuff (25MHz to 2100MHz, with a bandwidth of 2MHz), so there's a lot of interesting communication to find out about and to have fun seeing if it's possible to decode in software

A lot can be done in software.

Check out MultiPSK, and then try sending PSK31 over PC speakers across the street :)

Probably the most useless mode ever created for radio, haha.

No error correction, takes tons of bandwidth, poor quality, slow, etc.

Sending digital files is probably the better way to do it, with error correction.

But, SSTV is a "historical" mode.

Either way, not bad for a palmtop setup.

If you get something like MultiPSK, you might be able to find all kinds of cool stuff.

Haha, I forgot about the porny photos they like to send on SSTV.

They're barely recognizable, the quality is so bad.
