All the time.

I had to change my IRC password once because I put it in this channel :/

"sqlmigrote: command not found"
-
Oh neat. sqlmigrate will output the SQL that my LoadSQLScript migration operation loads into the database from a file.
-
PaulWay[w]
Nice
-
schinckel
I assume it just intercepts the "execute" part of the migrations framework.

so i discovered that this legacy project is using post-migrate signal to load initial data… thoughts?
-
i was going to tell someone off but thought there might be a good reason … so asking here

-
you said your bit last night ;)
-
schinckel
Hahaha.
-
I use migrations to load initial (required) data.
-
shangxiao
yep this is required initial data
-
schinckel
Because post-migrate would run each time you migrated, so you'd need to make sure your data insertion doesn't result in duplicates.
-
And what if the initial data objects had been changed (and needed to stay changed), they might be reverted when you next apply migrations.
-
Oh poop. Postgres `SELECT * INTO ... FROM ...` doesn't keep indexes. Of course not, why would it?

it's not that i'm discounting your bit, i want to compile as much evidence as possible because sometimes folks can be a bit dismissive

i reckon the response will probably be "it's not in the documentation so i'm not listening"
