hey, what is the typical $/hour for a django developer?
mattmcc
Too many variables.
wyoung
blackcross: depends how much you can get away charging
FunkyBob
for instance, I doubt wyoung gets paid what I do
despite working throug hthe same agency
[but for different clients]
wyoung
FunkyBob: nowhere near I reckon :)
but you got to start somewhere
aristippos joined the channel
mostly because I am full time and you are contract based right?
FunkyBob
that too
wyoung
and you have more years experience than me
FunkyBob
you've been doing django how long?
yeah
wyoung
since 1.3
so 2011
FunkyBob
so, about half as long as I have :)
wyoung
been doing python since 2005 or 2006

coding in general since ~2002, before that I used PHP so that doesn't count :P
blackcross
welp
looks like average SWEN ppl get paid $86k~
wyoung
nice, USD?
blackcross
ya
FunkyBob
not bad
wyoung
Yeah that sounds decent
FunkyBob
at current rates that'd be about A$113k
wyoung
does that include 401K?
FunkyBob
you mean superannuation?
wyoung
FunkyBob: well he was speaking in USD so I assumed he is from the US
FunkyBob
I took SWEN to mean Sweden...?
wyoung
oh
FunkyBob
blackcross: ?
iiie joined the channel
wyoung
that would make more sense, but he didn't say 86K euros or cronas or what ever currency they use there
krona, I was close

FunkyBob: SWEN = Software Engineering, and 401k included
phinxy has quit
and yes, USD
wyoung
blackcross: included in that figure? or on top of that figure?
blackcross
401k is optional, you have to pay into it
wyoung
MarkTheMark: not today
blackcross
usually they match 3-5%
wyoung
I see, so businesses don't have to pay you a percentage of your salary into a 401K fund?

Anyone familiar with the internals of ManyToManyField?
https://django.readthedocs.io/en/latest/topics/... mentions “However, if you’re using SQLite or MySQL with MyISAM tables, there is no enforced referential integrity; as a result, you may be able to ‘fake’ cross database foreign keys.” and, I am ready to take that plunge with M2M
Basically I just need to do the equivalent of prefetching, and join them in memory, rather than a JOIN query
wyoung
bahoo: sounds inefficie
t
bahoo
Yep, not idela, but when DB2 is a read-only instance from my vendor, the constraints rae a bit of out of my hands

bahoo: DB2 doesn't support joins?
bahoo
Heh no that was a slip on my part :D my second database is MySQL, but it’s read only (and, on a wholly separate instance) meaning I can’t join to it
wyoung
ummm so you have two databases? one you can write to the other you cannot?
