does the deis testuite also include deploying the example apps? (I frequently run into the buildpack based ones not working)

stefanfoulis: it looks like the test suite deploys an example ruby sinatra application, and curls the URL for the application to see that it is running
      • stefanfoulis
Ok, cool. I'll check if the example sinatra app works for me on my local setup. Might be a problem with my local deployment. Otherwise it might be worth deploying some other apps in the testsuite.
      • andyshinn
FWIW, i'm still struggling to understand failures with my ruby app on the default 2.0.0 buildpack
      • what issues are you having?

What's the easiest way to get postgresql for an app running under deis?

amccloud: where are you running your Deis cluster?
      • amccloud
andyshinn: Right now just locally. I plan on moving to Rackspace once I get the details worked out
      • andyshinn
usually, you would run a persistent database as a service, but Deis doesn't support that yet
      • you could run it as an application or Docker container, but there isn't any fault tolerance built in for that
      • does Rackspace provide postgresql as an addon?
      • amccloud
        andyshinn: no just mysql :(

amccloud: if you haven't deployed any applications yet, you might check out other providers that do offer mysql (AWS, GCE)

andyshinn: deis/example-ruby-sinatra worked for me locally. So it seems that it's mainly a problem with the heroku-buildpack-python based examples (example-python-flask and example-python-django).
      • amccloud
        okay I will try aws
      • stefanfoulis
example-php was built successfully, but the deployed instance throws some permission errors.
      • amccloud: aws has a postgres offering now (still beta though) http://aws.amazon.com/rds/postgresql/
      • I'm using rackspace as well though. I'd love them to provide Postgres as a service.

andyshinn: I'll try building it manually with slugbuilder tomorrow. In the meantime I opened an issue on deis, even though it might end up being an upstream problem.

i see they actually forked slugbuilder to run as a non-root user, i wonder if some buildpacks expect to run as root?
