well this creates an odd situation, his clicked obligations are to just send them to me for free which of course is silly
but at the same time I don't want to just throw money his way without having my purchase protected
badon
Oh right, if you send him back the money, you have no recourse.
N0ZYC
correct
badon
Did you receive the item yet?
N0ZYC
he made the goof this morning
badon
Maybe it's best to cancel the transaction and make a new one, so both of you are happy.
N0ZYC
yeah that's one option
I told him he could jsut invoice me properly via paypal
I think since he has partially refunded me on ebay he may not have the option to cancel the sale
badon
It's always possible to cancel the sale.
N0ZYC
I didn't think the ebay stated refund and the actual paypal refun were separate actions
I was shocked to see his somewhat broken english say something about my request for a combined sshipment partial refund, and seeing him return the full amount. I thought he had gotten upset by my request and cancelled the sale
(that was in a message from paypal) then I see ebay say I got a partial refund and was like ....what?
as I wqas reading that I got a message from seller, saying he had fully refunded me. it took a minute to realize he meant he accidentally refunded me
badon
IF he hasn't shipped it yet, you can ask him to make a new listing for you. You go Buy-It-Now, then cancel the old sale.
N0ZYC
yep that would work too
I am now having difficulty finding the email from paypal about the partial refund...
er from ebay
ok there it is. the only place it shows up is under Order Details, which is odd. no email
weird... now that I look at my paypal balance, the refund amount has been changed to the correct $7 ?
I didn't know he could make that sort of change
and I got no email from paypal desccribing it. he must have contacted them and had them adjust his mistake ?
email from paypal at 7:18 am: Sören Steinert just sent you a full refund of $135.90 USDfor your purchase.
badon
PayPal is often retarded.
N0ZYC
in my paypal history: 5:17 am Refund from Sören Steinert $7.00 USD (no mention of $135, and the time is not later, it's when the 135 was made)
badon
N0ZYC: ##prepping is active right now. Any interest in that channel? Most hams are interested in prepping.
N0ZYC
although I do have somewhat adjacent interests, no not really
thanks
while I see being prepared as a good idea and practice it, I don't take it anywhere near the level of the average "prepper"
"I've got enough food and water in the cellar for five months!" "ok. I've got a cardboard box with some canned and dry goods in it, and a case of bottled water!" ;)
badon
I'm trying to assimilate you.
Resistance is futile.
N0ZYC
I do sometimes wonder though what people would tend to use for currency in the event of society breaking down. It wouldn't be precious metals, that's for sure. there's just not enough floating around.
badon
Just food and clean water.
N0ZYC
that's what I would be thinking too
medical supplies also
badon
"Society beraking down" doesn't really happen often enough to worry about over the long term. If it happens at all, it's very brief, and isolated to specific locations.
N0ZYC
unless trump starts ww3 anyway
badon
Like Puerto Rico right now.
Prepping is really easy.
N0ZYC
did you see he wants to start pumping up the nuclear arsenal now?
like there's anyone we need nukes for right now
badon
It takes care of lots of more minor circumstances.
N0ZYC
I have useful enough skills in the civilian sector to not really be too worried
a skilled electronics hack will be a valuable commodity
badon
You're prepped for a water main break?
N0ZYC
with the state of MY plumbing, you bet! ;)
badon
That happened to me several times, in my neighborhood. I had enough water to get through about week of repairs.
That has happened twice where it lasted a whole week.
N0ZYC
here power is a bigger threat
a smaller town (10k?) north of here lsot power for 3-5 WEEKS due to a crippling five day long ice storm
it snapped power poles from our city to theirs like matchsticks, all the way down the 20 miles of highway
after that it was a good time to acquire low-mileage generators etc ;)
badon
Wow
Have you prepped for that?
N0ZYC
being a ham, I am also typically big into emergency power and communications
badon
I don't have a generator, but maybe someday I will be able to fit one in.
Yeah
You're prepping.
It would be nice to have your input in ##prepping.
There are a lot of discussions about power and radio.
N0ZYC
I have a genny, no less than five car batteries on charge, a supercap box, and more radios than you can shake a stick at
badon shakes a stick.
my 12v gear all uses anderson powerpoles, the ARES standard for emergency power
(that's a surprisingly important little detail, you have power, but can you connect it??)
badon
Yep.
N0ZYC
hams globally hold "field day" once a year to haul out and use their radios generators and batteries, and practice emergency communications for 48 hrs
I would wager strongly that we are a larger, more prepared group than the preppers in that regard
ARES actually solicited and FLEW a pack of haps to PR to set up comms
hams
"do you have the next few months free? are you bilingual? email us"
badon
We often have radio discussions in ##prepping, about specific models.
That's cool.
N0ZYC
we will pile into an area like a tornado hit somewhat frequently here in tornado alley. all the power poles down, all the towers down, we show up with power and comms, set up repeaters, canvas the responders with hams with radios, pass traffic
badon
I just mentioned that bit about ARES in PR in ##prepping
N0ZYC
for the first two weeks the hams supply 80% of the comms and a bunch of the power
badon
Yeah, we're talking about it now.
Without you.
:|
N0ZYC
all those fancy new radios these cities are puting in, don't work if your police station is leveled, has no power anyway, and the tower is on the ground
oh I suppose for a bit. I ahve to get plants in tonight tho, frost warning
