AS far as just the toning goes, the first one is better.

The first one is better overall.

some of the features look somewht modern, I'd be thinking this isn't actually that old and has been artificially aged

Yes, the field pips do look modern.

I'm not sure, but it has a lot of handling damage.

I suspect it's a modern privately minted coin, and the only reason it sold for so much money is because Chinese antiquities are getting a lot of attention right now, and basically people don't care what it is. They're buying everything they can get their hands on, because they anticipate rapid profits.

I have a set of coins from 2012 that have a similar background style.

one thing that's interesting about the pips is how well they are spaced vertically and how well in line. AND also how they are NOT aligned in any way horizontally

Some of the toning types have names. The ones that are evenly toned in a circle are called "target" toned.

Crescent is another common one, where the "circle" is offset, and only shows a crescent on the coin.

No, I don't put notes on each tab. That's too time-consuming.

I just use my mouse to drag them up and down to sort in order of my favorites, with the best ones at the top.
