Prices went up on the 1998 Shanghai stock exchange, from $8 to $15. That's a pretty good percentage gain.

Why is my TOR always crashing?
badon
What do you mean "crashing"?
Jeru
I won't continue working
"TOR stopped working"
badon
You're using Tor Browser?
Jeru
Trying to since last night
So I can use NGC again
badon
Maybe download a fresh copy. It's possible the copy you're using is corrupted. If your PC is overheating, the hard reboots probably corrupted your file system.
That is a very unusual error. It's almost certainly a symptom of file system corruption.
You need to repair your file system.
Jeru
How
badon
What version of Windows do you have?
Jeru

OK, one moment, let me see how that is done.
Jeru: You right click on your hard drive icon and select "Properties", then go to the "Tools" tab and click the button to check for errors.
Jeru
I have 2 hard drives
badon
Which one do you install windows and software to?
Actually, you should probably check both of them for errors. Do backups first, though.
Jeru
Back up before I do the tools?
badon
Yes.
Jeru
Is this going to be like reformatting my pc?
badon
I hope not.
It is usually able to fix the errors.
Jeru
What if it is? I don't know how to do that
I mean what happens if I do the tools and it can't fix the errors?
badon
Then you have to reformat and reinstall.
I'm guessing your laptop has been powering off suddenly due to your overheating issues. That is probably why your filesystem is corrupted.
Jeru
I don't know how to reformat and reinstall
badon
Well, you don't have to worry about it until after the error checks are done.
It will probably be able to fix it.
Jeru
Then why do I need to back up before doing the tools?
LjL has left the channel
Because doing the tools might erase some of my files?
So doing the tools is almost like reformatting?
badon
Because anything that messes with your filesystem could result in data loss, so if you have files you want to keep, back them up first.
No
Jeru
Doing tools is messing with my filesystem?
badon
Yes.
Jeru
Can I stay here while doing the tools?
badon
Yes
Jeru
okty
badon
Choose the option to check, but not repair.
Jeru
ok
badon
It will tell you if it found errors. That won't mess with your filesystem.
If it finds errors, then you can do the repair. It will probably restart your PC, then do the repairs before starting Windows.
Jeru: I think you have to uncheck the box that says "Automatically fix file system errors". Then it will only check, not repair.
No reboot required.
Jeru
ok
If the repair fails I need to reformat?
badon
No
Oh, the repair, maybe yese.
The check, no.
Jeru
What will happen if I did not reformat anyway?
badon
You PC will continue to be annoying.
IT might not boot, but most of the time it will.
I'm hoping the repair will be OK, and you won't have to worry about it.
I have an extra PC I can loan you :)
Jeru
I cannot reformat, I don't know how
My brother taught me a long time ago and I can't remember it anymore
And I don't think I have the essentials needed for reformatting
badon
I can't help you with that via IRC.
Jeru
I know
I probably will just have to suck it up
I'm just voicing out
I'm allowed to do that
badon
haha
Yes :)
I have to get ready for a meeting, but I'll be around if you need me.
For a few more minutes.
Jeru
Why did my files corrupted?
were
badon
If your PC turned off suddenly without a proper shutdown procedure, it would have interrupted the writing of a file. When that happens, it's like taking apart a car to replace a part, and then stopping suddenly without reassembling the car.
Jeru
Just because of that?
Not because of the things I download everyday?
badon
Yes.
Jeru
What will happen after the tools?
badon
It will reassemble the car.
Jeru
Is the check going to take hours? and the repair?
badon
I don't know how long it will take. It depends on how big your drive is, and how fast your PC is.
For mine, it takes maybe 10 minutes or something.
If your drive is failing, then it needs to scan the whole disk to look for bad sectors, but that probably is not an issue in this case.
If it has to scan the whole disk, that can take a long time.
Jeru
How long is your meeting?
badon
For just the filesystem checks, it should be quick.
I probably won't be back for several hours.
Jeru
I don't know what i will do next
badon
With what?
Jeru
I don't know
I don't know what's gonna happen next with my pc
badon
If you need more PC help, you can try some of the help channels. There are good websites for it too. Do you have internet on your phone?
If you have some other way to get online, then you can get help while your PC is rebooting or doing whatever it does.
Jeru
I can't access irc on my phone
it doesn't work like this
badon
If your phone is an Android or iOS phone, it should be able to get on IRC.
Your device or disk was successfully scanned No problems were found on the device or disk. It is ready to use.
Your device or disk was successfully scanned
If you removed the device of disk before all files were fully written to it, parts of some files might still be missing. If so, go back to the source and recopy those files to your device or disk

Jeru: Where did you get the message about removing a device?
Jeru
After the check now in tools
All that are in one pop up window. I can't screenshot it so I just typed it
badon
Oh OK. That's just a helpful message, I don't think it applies to your case.
