badon: https://forum.coincompendium.com/index.php?topi... can I just move this post to task to do?
      • badon
        Looking.
      • Jeruuu
or Do I still need to ask that in the forum?
      • badon
Jeruuu: That post was originally a type confirmation, so if it is finished for the new type, you can move it to the confirmed forum. You can make a new post for the task, and quote and/or cite the old post for reference.

Jeruuu: I think you can reference chat logs for things like this: https://botbot.me/freenode/coins/2016-08-05/?ms...
      • You can also copy-paste the chat so we know why it happened, on the forum.
      • The copy-paste + the logs reference will allow complete research to be done on everything that happens in the chat.
      • Jeruuu
        ok
      • badon
That makes it so we can use chat whenever it's convenient.
      • Wow, botbot.me says there are "187,149 lines of discussion in #coins"
      • Oh cool, our logger bot has a bunch of neat features I didn't know about.

        Hi CarolusRex
      • CarolusRex
        Sup badon?
      • badon
        CarolusRex: Doing well, you?
      • CarolusRex
Great, I just found a 1909 wheatback working cashier at my job which prompted my question.
      • badon
CarolusRex: When I was in the USA one day, I found a 1914 D Lincoln cent and a 1922 plain Lincoln cent. They were almost certainly from someone's coin collection.
      • CarolusRex: Don't clean it!
      • CarolusRex
        Hell no.
      • badon
Does it have a "VDB" on the reverse, below the wheat?
      • CarolusRex
It drives me insane when I see the scratched up shiny wheatbacks
      • badon
        Haha, yeah.
      • CarolusRex
I can't believe I forgot to look for the VDB! I'm going to get it
      • badon
Yeah, that VDB adds a lot to the value.
      • If it has an S under the date, it's the key to the series.

      • CarolusRex has quit
      • Charles__
It's CarolusRex, I couldn't reconnect with my usual nick for some reason
      • Spotty internet drives me crazy
      • It wasn't a VDB, still pretty cool though
      • badon
        Yeah, and valuable.
      • Is it in decent condition, or is it worn?
      • Charles__
Aren't the plain ones only worth like a buck?
      • It's not worn all that much actually
      • There's a fair amount of detail visible
      • Moderately worn I'd say
      • badon
I'm not sure, I never owned a plain one. I was an investor when I was collecting American coins, and I think I only bought the 1909 S VDB.
      • Charles__
        That's worth hundreds I'm sure
      • badon
It was decades ago. I paid $315 for it.
      • Charles__
So you don't live in America?
      • badon
It's worth probably 10 times that much, or more.
      • I never say where I am.
      • I could be in the USA RIGHT NOW, and you wouldn't know :)
      • I bought some gold double eagles too, but I made more money on the 1909 S VDB than most of the others.
      • Charles__
Dang, have you sold it yet?
      • The only thing I ever bought was junk silver and I made quite a bit selling that when silver went near $50
      • badon
Yes, I sold all my USA coins when the coin market became unfavorable. I did stocks or something after that.
      • I'm pretty good at timing the market
      • That's an understatement, actually.
      • It's like saying Einstein is pretty good at physics :)
      • Charles__
I only try it when I have extensive first hand knowledge of the commodity/stock/whatever because it's easy to get burned.
      • badon
I don't do precious metals right now, but that's what I did after the stocks and stuff.
      • Charles__
Do you have a specific industry you focus on with stocks?
      • badon
        Nope.
      • I don't do stocks anymore either.
      • Charles__
        Because?
      • badon
        That ship sailed long ago.
      • It's risky, and not as profitable as other investments with less risk.
      • they'll come back in fashion eventually, but not now.
      • Charles__
The only single stock I've purchased in the last few years is AMD and I tripled my money
      • badon
AMD is getting funding from the NSA, and that makes them a less risky investment.
      • The NSA has probably been propping them up for decades now.
      • Charles__
Also they're the only real competition to Intel, the only viable company to hold an x86 license, etc
      • Intel doesn't want to get sued for having an x86 monopoly so I wasn't worried about them going out of business
      • badon
That's why the NSA wants them to stay in business, so Intel can maintain its monopoly and convince everyone that it isn't a monopoly.
      • Charles__
Why would the NSA care about that?
      • badon
Because the NSA puts hardware backdoors in the CPU's produced in the USA.
      • As long as the USA is the primary source of the world's CPU's, the NSA can get into everybody's cryptography.
      • Charles__
I really don't doubt that and I probably shit on 99% of conspiracy theories
      • Like why wouldn't they
      • badon
        It's not a hypothesis, it's proven.
      • Charles__
        Where's the proof?
      • I know about the Intel Management Engine but that's hardly proof by itself
      • badon
      • They've been in there for a long time, and an independent researcher found one of them by accident.
      • Intel replaced it with a new backdoor that can be accessed wirelessly, even without any internet connection.
      • That's the current generation of NSA backdoors. It's pretty impressive, really.
