In celery rdb session, `y=1; [y==i for i in [1,2]]` is failing with `NameError`

I am using Celery 4.0.2 with django 1.8.4, I am using signature function call in one of my tasks and I am getting "tuple index out of range error" with latest version. While it works fine upto Celery 3.1.25

I'm trying to upgrade a Django 1.7 codebase to Django 1.11.1, somewhere in the process the celery integration managed to lost configuration. I've tried fixing it however nothing I do seems to change it from the defaults

this seems to be the relevant sections that need fixing

specifically we're finding that we can't set the broker_url

even passing a redis broker string into the Celery class directly doesn't work for us
