What's the reccomended method of updating beets to the current version?

Hey! I just used beets to sort out my music, which was great. However, now my music player (mpd/ncmpcpp) displays full dates (yyyy-mm-dd) in front of most but not albums, instead of just the year. Any way of setting all the date tags to just years?

*most but not all albums

Also, somewhat on the same topic: how do I switch to original dates for my albums? I set "original_date: yes" in the beets config, but how do I tell beets to update all the date fields?
